1997 Falcon auto

Got a 97 Falcon and the tranny has started making a whinning noise, went to do the obvious and couldn't find the dip stick. they have a sealed tranny. No sigh of a leak so I guess the fluid is OK. It also gets what I would call a "slipping clutch" (flare!) now and then - when you go to accelerate the motor revs up more but the speed remains the same. I'm guessing I'm in for an expensive trip to a tranny shop.

Second hand trans a few hundred dollars. Do it yourself. or get some mechanically minded mates to do it for you. nice n easy

Flaring is when it changes gear under acceleration and the revs increase significantly as the change starts before coming back down once the next ratio is gear. What it sounds like you have from your description is simple slippage. As it's only occassionally it could be as simple as needing a flush or a flakey solenoid depending on how long it's been doing it. See a transmission specialist. Don't go near a tranny shop.

I can't stand these bell ends that make audio into YouTube videos with stills.

Will need an overhaul . far cheaper to just chuck a S/H Trans in for sure.

thanks for the input

You can drain and re-fill these, I just didn't take much notice of the exact instructions as I have a 93 Falcon (which has a dipstick).

Do a google search for boosted falcon forums and take a look there.

If you want to refill with new fluid you have to drop the sump off, then refit with new gasket kit and then fill in on the side where a plug will be.
