My son has 82 civic and wants to pimp it out. (boys being boys) would 17" mags be to large for the car! Cheers in advance for any help.

phillip.weston, Jan 16, 2:52am
yes too large. Also being an '82 EB Civic, the stud pattern should be 4x120mm which will be hard to find wheels for. Only the EB Civic and the similar era Accord/Prelude used the 4x120mm PCD.

wombletomble, Jan 16, 2:53am
Bugger we have been lead to believe the stud pattern is 4 x 100

wombletomble, Jan 16, 2:55am
Actually the 4x120 stud pattern was fazzed out in 1979 leaving 1980 upwards with the 4 x 100 stud pattern. Thanks for coming : )

Its going to have a massive negative impact on performance, fuel economy and (especially) braking.

Extra unsprung rotational mass is the worse possible weight to add to a car.

phillip.weston, Jan 16, 3:20am
not to mention it'll look rediculous. it's a 1982 Civic. I would be fitting some 80s/90s era Japanese style 14 or 15" wheels perhaps.

wombletomble, Jan 16, 3:21am
ok how about 16" then!

phillip.weston, Jan 16, 3:24am
either way for a small car originally with small rims, you're going to have to run a really low profile tyre such as 195/40 R16 which wont do wonders for the ride quality. will probably look like a roller skate too.

wombletomble, Jan 16, 3:28am
lol that will suit the young falla, i suggested roller skates to begin with : )

phillip.weston, Jan 16, 3:31am
explain to him that bigger doesn't mean better :P In the case of an '82 Civic, 15" wheels would be more ideal.

wombletomble, Jan 16, 3:33am
Yes thanks for that 15" sound a lot cheaper to me so good for him. Cheers

The massive 17" mags thing is, like, SO last century, dawg.

15" for the track-day / "JDM" look is where it's at, yo.

trdbzr, Jan 16, 4:41am
Go with 15s and don't put a bodykit on it. The whole JDM scene is going to be the next biggest thing. Unless he wants to go the whole 'stance' route. Which is also going to become pretty big soon as well.

thegravelracer, Jan 16, 11:48am
the factory dc2 15n's would look nice [fat fives]

It already has.

I would honestly not even touch it. Save up for a better car. Thats my opinion. I wasted a huge amount of coin on my first car then rolled it off a bank. I wish I had saved the money. Altho boys will be boys.

johnf_456, Jan 16, 8:29pm
Personally I would just keep the car and drive it into the ground, then keep the money and do up something later on when you have money. Its not a car that is going to be a classic worth a fortune.

johnf_456, Jan 16, 10:03pm
^^ Totally much better over hubcaps

richardmayes, Jan 16, 10:05pm
$14.99 satin black spray can from The Warehouse.

Black steel wheels are oh so JDM, don't you know!

EN

& completely ugly compared to an EB

sw20, Jan 17, 6:20am
My mum has a EB1 Civic. Its super tidy for something older than me! She gets young fellas wanting to buy it all the time off her.

ninja_man, Jan 17, 6:24am
get some lightweight 15's or 16's

foxdonut, Jan 17, 6:28am
Might as well stick 22in spinners on it if he's going to spaz it up with any after market wheels at all.

wrong2, Jan 17, 6:34am
because they are classic

the gun repower is with the AA city turbo engine

or you can use the long stroke 2nd gen 1300 & stick the EB3 cylinder head on with the max overbore & end up with a decently torquey 2 valve 1500

wrong2, Jan 17, 6:35am
heck even the prelude iron block 1800 will drop straight in (too heavy tho, ruins their ok handeling)
