Best to find out where its going first, is blowing smoke or leaking and how much is it using over 1000km!

Unusual for a Honda to use oil.
What model is it and how many km

bestspot, May 29, 8:30pm
prelude vtec ,nearly 180 k. Its not leaking oil. It used about 1.5lin 5000k.I did the ks in about 5 weeks!

Valve stem oil seals are shot.

Is it showing blue smoke at the tail pipe.
When was the last oil change.
Sometimes if the car has been doing short trips the engine will get condensation in the oil which hides any oil usestage. But when the engine gets a lot of hot running the condensation evapoures out of the oil giving you the true reading of how much oil is left.

When its cold.on start up it blows vapoury looking blue smoke.I havent owned the car very long. I took it to one of those oil changing places, when it had done 5000k ,i took it back 4 a top up and it took 1.5 l.

May be they under filled it the first time !.

how often do you rev it beyond 5000rpm, ie when vtec kicks in! 1.5L over 5000kms on a 180,000kms engine isn't that bad. I would say 10W30 is perhaps a little on the thin side, I would be running a 10W40 or 15W40.

bestspot, May 29, 9:21pm
Ummmm .maybe.i hope thats it.:)

bestspot, May 29, 9:37pm
Yes, it probably does get up to 5000 revs a bit.
my husband reckons it loves it!!

phillip.weston, May 29, 9:50pm
vtec engines tend to use a little oil when revved quite high, much like Mitsubishi MIVEC motors and Toyota 20V 4A-GE motors. I would change the oil to 15W40 and see how that goes.

The engines in that model use FRM ( Fiber Reinforced Metal) sleeves in the block, which are a known cause for oil usage at times.
I wouldn't worry too much, its a common issue
