So if the late 1970s and early 1980s Bonnys have electronic ignition which is either located behind the sidecover or under the seat, what is under the old points cover!

From memory a crank position sensor. Try Google, there is a wealth of info on old Triumps out there.

sr2 is correct. On the end of the exhaust cam there is a rotor with 2 little magnets on it. This spins and triggers the electronic unit. The plate the holds the sensors has slotted mounting holes allowing adjustment of the timing.
