Using 1997 ford explorer xlt -auto

kiwikidd77, Mar 4, 2:07am
Flatmate just got himself a 1997 ford explorer xlt automatic with 4WD. It has a knob to select auto, 4WD hi and 4WD lo.

Would like some advice please on correct usage of the 4WD features.
When to select 4WD i.e. stationary or moving thanks.

Stationary and in neutral (just to be on the safe side).

Mind you, I'd be worried driving the Exploder on the road, let alone off road. So if you want to go off road, make sure to carry a GPS, flares, cell phone, lots of spare parts, and go with at least another two capable rescue vehicles and a mobile mechanic. Good luck.

Use auto on the road, Switch over to 4WD Hi when the road gets slippery at under 80kph and if 4WD low is needed, you need to stop and change over with your foot on the brake, You may need to be in neutral as well, I cant remember.
Cheers Stevo

If I remember correctly the instructions are on the sunvisor. Stopped, in neutral, foot on brake.
