son was driving home in his 84 mazda famila,when trans stopped working.it wont go into any gears.have watched selector cable and it works fine.help please.

Look around for a second-hand one.
It sounds like he has blown either the torque-converter, or the primary pump.

yep or else the pump drive itself might have failed.Disconnect one of the lines to the cooler in the radiator, run the engine briefly and check for any fluid flow, if there weak or no flow its remove and repair or replace time sorry.

have you checked the oil level!( from memory you pull the speedo cable out to fill it!)

yes plenty of oil.looked on TM no other gearboxes on at the moment.so he will have to bike for a while.
