Filled up my Wizard with petrol by mistake. Was driving it home and it died. What's the most likely outcome!

intrade, Nov 23, 7:58am
its kaput now. you nuked the injector pump . 2 grand repair now.
what engine has it got !

kingfisher21, Nov 23, 7:59am
How far did you drive it before it "died" What year Wizard! Need to know what engine it has.

intrade, Nov 23, 7:59am
most unlikely outcome will be it somhow recovers when you bleed diesel with loads of flashlube thru it . but its a real slim chance for that.

96 Isuzu Mu Wizard

kingfisher21, Nov 23, 8:00am
Don't listen to intrade, yet. If it has the older mechanical injector pump on it it may be able to be saved

ange276, Nov 23, 8:01am
Probably drove about 3km.Started to miss.Took a while to register what might have happened.Stalled in the driveway.

intrade, Nov 23, 8:02am
what enginelol ! 3.1 or wot.

ange276, Nov 23, 8:02am
How would I know whether it is an older injector pump!

intrade, Nov 23, 8:07am
you dont need to know you need to tell us what engine its got and best what engine code. if your out of luck and its a cambelt engine and it seezed the pump fullythen it absolut completly nuked your whole engine now with bent valves and seezed solide pump.

kingfisher21, Nov 23, 8:07am
On the top of the intake manifold near the front of it, does it have a small black box! Engine code of the vehicles VIN tag also, in all it's more than likely the older type with a mechanical pump, drain ALL the petrol, diesel mix out the the tank, replace the fuel filter and fill with fresh diesel.

ange276, Nov 23, 8:11am
Been hunting round trying to find some identity.Looks like it says 4JG2I.Does that help!

ange276, Nov 23, 8:17am
And have now found the VIN 7A897170700101597.Does have a Cam belt.Does that mean its dead!

kingfisher21, Nov 23, 8:19am
No, try what I said, won't cost much for a filter but you MUST change the filter, nothing to lose.

a.woodrow, Nov 23, 8:20am
Drain the tank, bleed the lines, change the filter and refill with diesel. if it starts leaking out the pump or doesn't start, you've knackered it

ange276, Nov 23, 8:20am
What about fuel in the fuel lines!

intrade, Nov 23, 8:21am
well you need a meachanic to disconnect the fuelinjector pump and fit a clear tube and pump some chemtech or flashlube in to the pump , and befor that he needs to check with fuelpump in and out disconnected if the pump has seezed and if the cambelt has broken or not .

msigg, Nov 23, 8:21am
just get a mobile mechanic around to check it out.

ange276, Nov 23, 8:22am
Cambelts not broken

splinter67, Nov 23, 8:23am
bummer do what a woodrow said no intrade flashlube wont help

ange276, Nov 23, 8:25am
OK - thanks everyone. Will give it a go tomorrow and hope for the best

intrade, Nov 23, 8:26am
if its all still moveing then you got a chance , needs to be moved by hand on crank so they know the resistance . if it seems fineyou pump with a handpump . fuel lubrication additive in the pump and purge out the petrol, then you put it on a seperate container with clear hoses of diesel and try start it again purgeing the now full of additive lube injector pump . and the injector lines have to be off the injectors so it dont pours any more petrol in the engine that remains in the injector lines.
a good mechanic will know all this . then once diesel is on the injectors purged out you can close the nuts off and try start it again.and take it from there . depending on how it runs or not at all .from a seperate clean container of diesel
Clean fueltank or.

mm12345, Nov 23, 8:27am
Do it now.You need to flush petrol out of the injector pump ASAP.

intrade, Nov 23, 8:31am
petrol destroyes seals yu also want to empty remove the fuelfilter soonest.
if it wont start after you correctly purged the petrol and replaced it with diesel and "additve,if available" well if it dont starts then its a expensive repair. and it will have done damage for sure just how mutch you will know when it runs rough again or not at all.

intrade, Nov 23, 8:34am
if it runs again on a seperate fresh container of diesel then you can go and clean out the fueltank and blow out the petrol from fuel lines .
