Jazz, or others - Stilo question

Partner recently bought a 2006 Stilo. Apparently an Abarth, it has the 2.4l motor, but no badges or any indication of it being an Abarth. From what I can glean, the 2.4l were only in the Abarth - anyone know if this is correct! Carjam just lists it as a Stilo. Cheers.

if you are sure it is 2.4L then it IS an abarth.
you could always take a photo of the engine and upload it here.

I think the 2.4 is a 5 cylinder engine, so that would be an easy check to do.

Yes, as above, I am quite sure it will be an Abarth, some people just seem to think its cool to "de badge" things.

You could always use "eper" online to look up the spec of your particular car from its VIN if you wish.

Don't forget to check the timing belt is not due based on both age and km's and if its a Selespeed (which it probably is) remember to get the clutch adjusted annually.

Have fun with it, they are a hoot to drive!

Thanks guys, definitely the 2.4 so will be the Abarth. It is a fun car to drive. Jazz, it's a 2006 with 50k on the clock - at what age should the timing belt be done! And any recommendations for service in Wellington! I'd like to take it in for the clutch adjustment. Cheers!

I can't remember the interval for those off the top of my head, but at most it would likely be 120K/5 years and it could be a bit less than that, so its overdue.

Have a look on the Google and you should find the interval without much of a problem I would say.

The key thing is don't delay on this as there are a lot of valves to bend in one of those and I would say they will very much bend indeed. I think the Stilo is a little bit easier to get at than the Marea 5 Cylinder (which is a pig) but can't remember for sure.

Anyhow, I am a bit far away from Wellington to suggest somewhere, perhaps a call to the Fiat club in your area or someone on here may recommend a place. Get some quotes, do EVERYTHING while you are in there (just too expensive for labour to revisit on those sorts of setups) and then you should get a good long low maintenance run out of the engine.

I would probably go for an independent Fiat/Alfa specialist, ask them lots of questions and make sure they ABSOLUTELY will be using the correct cam locks and DTI gauge on the engine. Don't accept some BS about them not needing them.

If you are a bit handy you can do the clutch adjustment quite easily yourself if you purchase "multiecuscan" and a cable. Otherwise the same independent specialist should be able to do that quite cheaply.

Its been a few years since we had one in the family so I am scratching my head a bit on some things. Loads of fun to drive though as you have discovered and enormous value for money too. If you maintain it properly and by the book any problems you have are likely to be niggly things that are not end of the world to fix and certainly shouldn't leave you stranded.

Have fun with it!
