Can you put a child car seat in front of old car ?

if there are no seatbelts in the back seat? Cant find an actual answer on LTSA website in relation to this question. Or do I need to install rear belts to comply?
cheers

As long as they can reach the pedals

I think the problem is with rear facing child seats and air bags. Have been through checkpoints with my kids in their seats in the front without issue, officer even checked correct mounting and expiry date.

I think it's legal, but I'd plan on fitting some rear seat belts in the future anyway. At some time you are going to end up with more than one kid in the car, so you will want those rear belts then.

Put them in the boot if it's going to be a problem.

It is trunk!

Yeah, I forgot, Kids=Zoo=trunk.

I used to have son in car seat strapped into front passenger seat and was okay'd by the bill. Like you had no belts in rear.
Also done it in little convertible and understood it was ok.
As said above, it's just an airbag thing. Lots of cars have defeat switch to turn airbag off in passenger seat.

Kids in the back is more like a Plunket guideline than an actual rule.
