desmodave, Oct 20, 8:45pm
Just a guess , Rivet punch may be

whqqsh, Oct 20, 8:45pm
yeah, rounding the heads of rivets

upnorth, Oct 20, 11:27pm
No, they round the tail of the rivet.

And the hole is to help get the rivet through the metal and tight

yup, once you've peined a head onto it. I've seldom seen them work well from scratch unless you pein a decent mushroom first & then they finish off

Looking at these old tools I'm reminded of the double skin ships the English (and others) used to build, and the story of the riveter who disappeared from work one day, never to return.

They found him many years later riveted between the two skins and unable to escape.

EDIT: A quick Google suggests the story is a fake

The story related to a real ship of ill luck - The 'Great Eastern'

A longer Google search suggests it is not.

"When taking her apart, a skeleton was discovered inside her double bottom. Apparently he was one of the workers that had built the ship in the 1850's. Was it he that had cursed the Great Eastern when he realised that no one could hear him or let him out? Was it he that had brought all misery to the Great Eastern? "

The tools are riveting 'Dollies' or singular 'Dolly'
