Howdy folks,

Had a mishap and ended up breaking drillpress neck. Looks to be cast alloy, any one know how to fix this, or is it scrap?

Here is a photo:

Cheers in advance!

Hate to sat it but it's destined for the scrap bin.
What make of drill is it?

Bugger, thought that may be the case!

Its a Hitachi drill press attachment that accepts any standard corded drill

Everything is fixable , is it worth it. You could make a couple of brackets, drill /tap some holes etc, depends if you have the time a nd hw valuable this is to you. Only you can decide that.

Easy fix for a good bloke with a Tig welder.
Also cut a new ring to weld on top (Or bottom depending on clearances)

ha ha! I see where you are coming from, but drill actually fits fine. The workpiece broke away from clamps & smacked into the drillpress breaking it

The welding is the easy part, it's the mill work required afterwards that IMO makes the repair not worth the effort.
I'm basing this on a good quality (Tanner etc.) 2nd hand drill press being available for not much more than $100.

looks like a cheap thing to me and aluminium sometimes cant be welded if its made of inferior material Dont waste your time and find a new old model one that has a steel ring to clamp the drill.
