I just bought a $500 car

tgray, Sep 7, 6:23pm
as a trade in.
Corolla - tick
New wof - tick
Drives well - tick.
It's even fun to drive (relatively speaking. ) takes me back to my youth and what I grew up driving as a young guy.

Going to keep as a loaner.

Lucky . there was a lady who used to buy up cars under a $1000 with rego & wof for solo mums to keep them out of dealers clutches . i sold her a 1990 ceilca hatch for $900 couple years ago . She used to buy repos as well .

The light weight of an older car (even ones without much power) is what gives them a bit of "fun".
Even my 2005 Mazda sp23 felt like it was "heavy", it handled/stopped/accelerated great but just had no "zing", and i dont want to have to drive at crazy speeds to feel like I am going fast in today's insulated, souless cars.

Can confirm. My '85 Corolla would be easily sub 1000kg. 118hp 4AGE. Lively wee thing.

I just had to hand back my 96 Corolla 1600 manual loaner, had since Friday loved it, I know what you mean.

sw20, Sep 12, 8:49pm
Hahaha. Add another zero on the end for an old rwd Toyota.

friendly_prawn, Sep 12, 9:10pm
yeah crazy eh? who would ever have thought. Use to think of them as throw away cars back in the day.

Yep in the late '90s old mate sold a tidy original MK2 Escort for $500.

I still remember many years ago when I was quite young I got a job on a shearing gang. The boss picked me up in a brand new ford escort van. As we travelled along a back gravel road the piece of crap was rattling away. I kept thinking it was the tinnyest, most crappy pile of junk i had ever ridden in. I hated it. Mind you I was used to driving valiants, holdens and fords. I never in my wildest imagination ever thought an escort would ever be worth any thing of value in the future. I hated the bloody things. Tinny rubbish.

Wouldnt mind a few parked in my shed now. Im sure it was on here, some one said a 2 door escort fetched $26,000. For a stupid old escort? Shows what i know eh?

Arrr but zey be written in to zee record books many many many(shyt-did i say many? ) times.
Not escort vans fp- but the ole predictable ekky that sticks it's ass so far out-and keeps it there.
And loves havin a decent setup and a damn good foot or more of air under the insoiedee front wheellie.
Let alone a 9000 rpm BDA. mmmmmm
Still one of the worlds best gravel road cars.

As said, shows what I know mate! . lol Still cant stand them. I'm guessing that will have a completely different engine and suspension to your average escort though. You're average escort would crawl and rattle it self to death on that track.

I thought your minimum requirements were GM, V8, 400hp or more. ?
