Hi there,
Looking into a 2008\09 model and they have CVT transmission. Should I be weary of this or have cvts improved?

Well cvt are different and a 2008 toyota wont be any better then a holden astra of the same year. if you think they wont fail for 20 years like the 1980s and 90s toyota then your living in a dream world and you will find out that they do expensively fail especially if you dont service it on time and correctly. Any other brand will also not fail if its serviced right.
Be awear that some moron dealerships dont eaven replace brake fluid and the only toyota with a not rooted cooling system was the 95 hiace i just serviced as it was a japan import they seem to change fluids on time in japan unlike the morons here.

So its not about if cvt have improofed its about are still all morons getting near that cvt .

retropearl -the rumion IS a Toyota Corolla. The Toyota CVT transmission has proven to be a solid reliable unit.
But -ALL CVT transmission require a service at about 60000km (varies between manufacturers)
That's not end of the world stuff with the total cost being only about $400
