This round of the supercars consisted of two 60 km sprint races on saturday and a 200km race on sunday. How can it be called the ITM 500 when its only 320 ?.Seems a bit strange to me.

Yep I figured that out , i was wondering where the 500 comes from. Its like calling Bathurst the Supercheap 1225 km.

The pukekohe 500 of the 80's was 500 km in total over three races, that morphed into the current shorter format, maybe to please TV and has had afew names. Guess they stick to the 500 bit for PR.

Someone in a meeting suggested they use the old '500' name to link it to historical events. 'But it's only 320 km' says mr reasonable. They ponder this. A marketing professional pipes up 'Yeah but the public are stupid, if anyone asks, just point out that 320 km is 515 miles so it's all good'! Brilliant they said and gave him a raise. To be fair the B&H 500 must have been miles so it's kinda good.

I doubt the public would buy that conversion. When I went to school 320 miles was around 515 km. I'd be surprised if it's switched around completely since.

Took a while for you to come along. I suppose too long a race would mean a recall for the holdens with guards exploding due to tyre failure. Ha ha. I may give you a Ford to work on next week.
