I have a friend who has a XF Ford falcon ute. Its has a 351 cleveland in it. How much for a torque converter for the trans will they be looking at!

fordkiwi27, Aug 29, 6:27pm
what is the transmission!

tekaholics, Aug 29, 6:48pm
c4 i think

actually i wouldnt have a clue, I just want to get a price range of how much it will be.

C4 doesn't sound right. More likely to be C6 I think.

more than likely a C4, most common trans. Last time i bought a torque convertor, it was a new 2500 hi stall, and it was $800.i

Oh yeah thats not bad.

I think c6 small block bellhousing trans were fairly rare.weren't c6's mostly behind big blocks.

c4's and fmx were more common!

Didn't they have a FMX in them!

My XD and XE did.

I thought C6's were mainly big block (I had one behind a 460), C4's 302/351s (had 2 behind XA's that were factory 302's).I thought the FMX was mainly before the C4's and viewed as rather weak in factory form! Used for the smaller capacity V8's.My guess would be C4, I haven't googled, but I would have thought there would be an easy way to tell (eg Sump shape! I think the FMX's body might have been cast iron, as opposed to the C4/C6 being aluminium!).Could be wrong, that's just been my experience of them.Google is your friend :-)As for converter cost, it all depends on what you want, standard, high stall, or race :-)

C4's were more common in passenger cars. FMX was the hi -performance trans (MX is the code for motorsport). But the FMXs were average at best. the C6 was put behind the commercial motors mostly, but some of the big passsenger cars were upgraded to the C6 or FMX trans. C4 has an alloy bellhousing and trans body, the bellhousing bolt are inside the bellhousing. the FMX has a cast iron trans casing, the bellhousing bolts are on the outside. the C6 trans doesn't have a removable bellhousing.

ok so c4 it is then! The engine is originally out of a ford xf sedan

There were no V8 XF Falcons. Maybe you should take a photo of the trans and post here or take the car to someone to have a look at it. Otherwise we are all just taking guesses at what it could be.
