Just picked up an very straight hi spec SIII Land Rover, original winch, factory overdrive, alpine windows CB radio etc. Deceased estate, 77km. The old dude that had it kept it very well looked after. Last reg in 2002, so plates are dead. I would like to keep this pretty much as found. Is it possible to keep and regsister the old plates, even if I had to pay back registration to 2002!. Thanks

Apparently you can be reissued black and white plates now so long as you can prove the old plates belonged to that vehicle.

As far as I'm aware, you would have to get the old plates re-issued as personalised plates. I could be wrong though.

New law has come in. You can use original black plates.

Sorry, you're just going to have to re-comply and re-register the car with new plates. Approx $400 for the compliance check which you need to prove that it has been registered here before (old plates will suffice) and that it is of no interest to the police. It may need things like disc rotors, brake pads, tyres etc to pass compliance. Then you will need to register it which will cost $300+ for 6 months depending on engine size and if the vehicle is of commercial nature.

You can use the old black plates providing it hasnt been reregistered with white plates, do a search it will come up.
