I am in the process of nueutralising and then painting the inside floor of my 1965 Viva HA. I have pulled out all the carpet and have decided to replace all of the underfelt which is pretty tired expecially since I have stripped the floor back to the factory painted metal. The underfelt is like a straw type foam. What would be a good underfelt that I could get hold of that I could cut and install myself.I am on a really tight budget and have priced up a fitted underfelt for around $50 plus post.Looking on here I might get one for much less.Would one with a rubber backing or aluminium backing be ok with the foam underlay.Whats the best out of these two for cutting out road noise. The carpets are still good having been replaced at some stage before I bought the car 20 years ago,so I will be using these again.

Look into using some cheap roof repair/flashing repair tape rolls on the body (serious) cause that can help a lot to and is cheaper than dynamat classic. can smell a bit more in the first couple weeks but eh.
There are also some quite good rubberized paints that work to. As to the actual felt stuff if you mean the thick stuff under the carpets that looks like movers mats what about actual movers mats! lol

Have you visited your local auto upholstery firm! Some may have the good fabric based underfelt but others may use the crappy (in my opinion) chip foam underfelt which isnt in keeping with the classic car either.
You could easily get the underfelt required for less than $50. Are you going to just lay it down or stick it down! Sticking it down would be better until the day you want to take it up again!

Hopefully lay it down but if necessary I will stick it down.

Check with a carpet layer - they often uplift the old horsehair underfelt and replace it with that foam crap.If you can find some out of a bedroom it will be just like new in your car.Dont whatever you do use that waffle type rubber underlay. It will sweat like you wouldnt believe and rot your floor fater than the speed of light.Triumph 2500s used a very heavy rubber faom thing and that was ok but dont know where you would find it though.
