so I've got a 70cc bike and the boss has a stock expansion chamber off a 85cc ktm does anybody know if I would be able to use the chamber off the bigger engine! and what about silencers! how does a quieter muffler change the powerband of the pipes!

Expansion chambers and tuned exhaust length are critical to the correct operation of a 2-stroke engine because of the scavenging.

+1, dont mix and match expansion chambers unless you REALLY know what youre doing aye

would it at least be better than what is on it atm! it's basically a pipe and muffler like what you would find on a 4 stroke

If nobody tried anything that they 'weren't supposed to do' we'd all still be living in caves and eating raw meat. Chuck it on there and see how it goes.you'll never know otherwise. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. If it does, all good, and from your post above.I think it's worth a crack.

Agreed, the worst it can do is spread it's self all over the road. Boarders keyway scooter busted the muffler baffles last month so I put a new pipe through the snout / managed to rebuild 2 of the 3 baffle plates & it's running fine. The busted baffle was a "strangler" plate in that it only had a tiny hole in it & the rest of the plate was solid, thats not there now.

There is a real science to getting expansion chambers right, as you need the pressure waves to reflect back at the right time for maximum performance.
worth a crack I suppose, but I'm not sure how you'll measure performance through the rev range.

Same hill / same rider/ same time of day temps/ same effort distance to get there/ trying for the same max speed up the hill

My suspicion would be for more & easy rev's / less torque

expansion chamber normally connects at cylinder, so original exhaust becomes "extra" does make a hua of a difference when power band kicks in!

I'm not saying it'll go really well, or at all. I'm just saying 'give it a go'. It'll either go well, go like a bag of shit, or not go. Nothing ventured nothing gained and it sounds as though it has a four stroke exhaust system on it now so it must go better than that.
