It's pretty simple mate, here's what i did.

1

Get a form from VTNZ or AA that you take to cop shop, they fill it in to say they have no interest in the bike.
(You'll need as much info' as you can get ie: old plate/s, old ownership papers or last owners details)
All i had was a reciept from the guy i bought it from, the Honda frame # and my license.

Also don't let them (Police) tell you that they don't fill out those forms anymore, it's BS.

2

Get bike up to WOF standard.
(mine just needed 2 tyres, park light bulb and 1 mirror. Only 1 mirror needed for WOF)

3

Make appointment for re-vin, fill out the form they give you (can't remember the form #)
Pay $128 for certification, it's for a strict WOF and a VIN plate rivetted to bike.

4

Go into office, fill out form MR2A, pay $273.86, that's for a new plate, new reg' label and 6 months reg' (Vehicle license)

Also, if bike was built before '91 or '92 (can't remember which) you DON'T have to get a brake disc thickness test done.

well its a 76 so i dont think i have to worry about that then :P Sweet, cheaper and less intensive than doing a car then!

Yep, simple and straight forward. The guy who did mine at VTNZ is a mad keen biker so that may have helped a little. (With explaining the process to me)

The problem you come across is that everyone has a different opinion on how it's done and 99% of those people are wrong.

I wander if i just take the bike down to Botany honda, if they would just take the bike, give it the look over, recomend the fixes it may need, and then put it through the process themselves, it would make it a bit easyer for me haha

Maybe easier for you but would probably give ya wallet a hiding mate lol.

as above except you can no longer use the form you used to take to the police, it is up to you to prove you have legal entitlement to the bike. go and see VTNZ there is a new process you have to use if you dont have any receipts (few more hoops to jump through) but still possible
