Go through what you did with a fine toothed comb to make sure it's as it should be.
When does it backfire through the carb! Have you verified the cam timing!

Back firing out the carb is a timing issue or very lean burn issue

fouled plugs , common cause of this problem.

incorrect, it wouldn't cause that, only would cause poor running or missing, and higher fuel consumption, but timing and a very lean mixture will cause that

have you by chance placed the plug leads on the wrong way! The firing order is 1324 if you swap plugs 2 and 3 so that it was 1234 it would cause backfiring through the carb

Thank you all. I will try those options.

i beg to differ Ginga , personal experience tells me you are wrong. I had fouled up plugs which caused backfiring thru carb when engine came under load. Cleaned plugs and bingo! no more backfiring.Do your homework before saying im wrong.

As above.go through EVERYTHING you have done and double check. Too hard to assess over the net. I have have dozens of customers come in with a problem only to find out 2 hours later they had done something quite unrelated to their description!
