Unbelievable explanation from their head honcho that no danger existed.

was,nt that a crock of shit from a person in his position. The photo in our local paper clearly showed 2 complete wheels lying on the ground, and as for saying the other axle would hold it up, well.

well if they are anything like the local ritchies busses round here, the tyre doing the overtaking wouldnt have been doing 20, the busses themselves barely seem to do that.

And now there will be a call (quite rightly) to have wheel nut tags on all passenger transport vehicles.Just like what happened after that Fire Truck lost its wheels in Wellington a couple of years back.

Some Ritchies buses here seem to have brake problems. They sometime sail through red lights. If I get there numbers I phone Ritchies to let them know??

If the wheels were together then that is a wheel bearing failure as the rims stay on the hub and the hub comes off the axle. Nothing to do with the tyre guy, anyhow the DRIVER is legally required to have wheel nuts retorqued after 100kms of travel, so if the wheels were seperated as the article stated then its still not fair to blame the tyre guy unless the wheels came off within 100km of the rims being removed from the hub, I highly doubt the tyre guy forgot to torque up the nuts, more like the bus company/driver forgot to retorque them.

Be a Volvo with single nuts not inners and outers. That explains why the witness said the wheels went in two different directions.

"Never any danger of an accident"
Tell that to those who have been killed by flying wheels!
The wheels were,nt together, came off seperatly, I,d say never been re-tourqued.

Yea, I miss-interpreted your other post thinking "complete" as in together as they would be on the hub. I agree, failure to retorque is the No1 cause of wheels falling off. And its driver/company is legally required to retourque BEFORE 100kms of travel not after as I stated earlier.
