Are you at all handy with a spanner! If you take the seats out and work the mechanism by hand (if the lever doesn't work), they are usually pretty easy to figure out.

Thanks dayle, I look forward to seeing it. Robin

I follow your youtube vids of your passion with your sigma.I have not seen another yellow one, most seem to be a very tired green .I worry about mine rusting. evidently they were very biodegradeable.

dayle I had no idea you had an older Mitsi! I've got the coupe version of the Sigma sedan - mine is a jap import and is badged as an 'Eterna'. It's turbocharged, four wheel vented disc brakes, independent rear suspension etc, travelled 142,000kms - OH, and it's YELLOW too!

I dont know much about cars, mitsubishi,s seem to get a few disparaging remarks on this message board. But I love my yellow car, it runs really well, and is quite economical. and I only wish it was older to get the cheaper rego. I will look up the Eterna .I dont know what they are. Mine was built by Todd Motors, still has the labels under the bonnet. If anything, it sits a little high on the road, Id like to see it slightly lower.

My Dad had a 1982 Sigma 2000 GLX.It had factory 14 inch wheels on it.My Sigma being a GLX (1600) has 13 inch wheels on it.Dads Sigma sat up a bit higher on the 14 inch wheels.Maybe try some 13 inch wheels and that will lower it a bit.

The Eterna is the name given to the top spec Jap import models at the time. In Japan they were called either the Galant or the Eterna, the Sigma moniker being used only to symbolise the sedan while Lambda was used for the coupe. So in Japan you could have a Galant-Sigma or an Eterna-Sigma sedan and a Galant Lambda or Eterna Lambda coupe.
In NZ and Australia they were simply just called the 'Sigma', although the earlier 75-79 generation was badged as the Galant-Sigma in NZ.
The 2L had bigger brakes hence the need for 14" rims to clear the rotors and calipers up front.

Yes they, unlike modern cars have to be garaged.I always keep mine polished and garaged and if I see any rust I treat it or polish that area before it breaks through the paint.

I actually did try that, it looked dreadful, too much car, tiny littlewheels! It also affected the speedo dramatically.100k was actually just over 80. Now I have some period Auger14 inch magnesium wheels on it with a 2 inch offset , they fill the guards up better. These cars have a rather ugly back wheel arch. looks a bit unfinished to me. Pity, I really like the factory wheels, but they are too skinny! No, Im not a boy racer.

Phillip, yes I have seen one of these, a blue one. Much nicer back guard opening. curves around the wheel better. Very nice!

My Model Sigma is a GR but when I search up on the internet for it I can only find the Australian ones in my shape but they are not GR's.I think they are GJ's.
phillip.weston,
Sep 17, 8:39pm
yeah GR and followed by a number and another letter is NZ-specific, the chassis prefix given to it by Todd Motors (of which other Todd Motors vehicles like Hillman Hunters follow the same prefix). in Japan it's the A16xA.
And yes GJ was the Australian equivalent.
tuttyclan,

Ok yes its a GR 3H

dayle,

I put big tyres on the back 205 14 by memory, and 185 14 on the front. I should have put 185s all round. I should also leave the bloody thing alone.,, Mr Mitsubishi knows best!

I was the unfortunate first Kiwi owner of a fifth generation jimport Eterna ('85, from memory). Outwardly, it was a nice car, but I think I was the victim of an odometer wind-back, because the engine stated smoking badly at about 120,000. I had it rebuilt by the local mitsi agents, but it didn't last. They said they thought the motor had done at least 100,000 more than shown. Since then it seems every second old Mitsi I see is a smoker. Confirmation bias probably.

Very nice Sigma.Just dont see them anywhere else in yellow.Maybe we should keep an extra eye out for yellow Sigmas (Yellowstone colour) and note down the registration numbers so we can get some idea how many exist still in NZ.
