cambelts

shuddupowh, Sep 25, 2:29pm
Since we are on this topic, is it true that the E30 BMW 318i M40 is camchain!

phillip.weston, Sep 25, 2:39pm
M40 is belt.

robinm1, Sep 25, 2:49pm
the Mitsi L300 cambelt is one of the easier belts to change. Well the 2 litre one is anyway, I would imagine the 2.4 would be very similar.

mugenb20b, Sep 25, 3:34pm
2.4 is easier.

phillip.weston, Sep 25, 3:44pm
how so! I would imagine they would be the same.

mugenb20b, Sep 25, 3:49pm
Early 2 litre ones had two cambelts, and if I recall correctly, 2.4 only has one belt.

phillip.weston, Sep 25, 3:53pm
nope the 2.4 has balance shafts too (and only one cam-belt, the other small belt doesn't go to a 'cam'). The only Sirius family engine not to have balance shafts is the DOHC 1600cc 4G61, all other 4G6x engines got them.

Thanks for clarifing that Phillip. It's been a while since I've done a 2.4 motor, but, just seemed easier to work on at the time. OP, please ignore my first post.

HI PHILLIP.With what you are saying about the Balance Shafts etc, would they all have Timing Marks and do you think I should purchase the book for this model to do W/Pump and Cambelt myself!Any advice appreciated.Cheers.

phillip.weston, Sep 25, 6:12pm
yes they have timing marks. Fairly straight forward. Just make sure the engine is at TDC before pulling the old belts off and make sure the pulleys stay put, and you should be fine.
