Use the search function on the left. a fair bit of info should come up about the RX8

mugenb20b, Sep 26, 6:25pm
Yes, as long as you don't do short, cold trips.

mugenb20b, Sep 26, 6:26pm
Have you ever seen a rotary powered car that's cheap to maintain!

motonut, Sep 26, 6:56pm
ive got my heart set on one but i dont really know much about them whats it cost to fill the tank! reading reviews its mixed some love them others say they arent worth it if its for everyday driving.

Mum brought one about 5 months ago, to & from work most days - she needs new coils, leads, & plugs which is causing some hard starts but otherwise good - just the short trip thing to keep in kind & they are pretty thirsty but worth it for the nice fun ride, she has no regrets.

Sister got one. It's never caused her any problems and she commutes to work everyday.

ninja_man, Sep 26, 7:05pm
about $130 to fill tank, and that wont last long.

brants, Sep 26, 7:09pm
If you need some coils get them in from the us way too expensive at dealers here.

zoltec45, Sep 26, 7:44pm
NO.

Theyre expensive on petrol, servicing, parts and everything else. When theyre used on short cold trips (like round town, to the super etc) then switched off they usually flood with petrol, cant be started and need to be towed to the dealership.
If you want a weekend racer thats a fun drive then buy it, as a second car. Theyre good for what theyre designed for, and thats not for round town.

That explains why they're always seen speeding past schools & shopping centres.

kiwicon, Sep 27, 8:30am
cost of fulling the tank will be the least of your problem tbh

bitsy_boffin, Sep 27, 8:53am
That is just F.U.D spreading. If you back it down your drive and turn it off, yes you probably would flood it, but driving to the shops, no it will be warm by then.

As for de-flooding IF it happens, it's not a tow to the dealership problem!

Depending on the severity of the flood and the health of your starter motor, battery, plugs and coils it can be as simple as cranking it over with your foot to the floor, and as "difficult" as pulling out the fuel pump fuse and taking out the spark plugs.

i love rotarys! - even the rx8. i've heard that the early model is not as good as the later ones - heaps of info on ausrotary.com just do a search there

fordcrzy, Sep 27, 2:41pm
oh and just make sure its a 2 liter 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto and NOT the 5 speed ones which are a much lower spec but you seem to pay the same for them here in NZ

loose.unit8, Sep 27, 3:04pm
The only people towing them to a dealership for flooding are numbnuts who haven't read the user manual or googled how easy it is to fix the problem.Friend at work had one and used it as an everyday car. Commuted to work and back 5 x a week etc.I just asked her how many times it flooded for her.She reckons in the 18 months she had it, never. The only problem she had was coils needed to be replaced, which wasn't cheap.

marmatt, Sep 27, 3:33pm
just buy itand have fun

vtecintegra, Sep 27, 3:40pm
They're also really thirsty for how much power you get - not so good for a daily

fordcrzy, Sep 27, 3:43pm
like i said buy an MX5. they are just as fast. handle just as well and hold thier value better. just look at the prices already.the RX8 was more than 20% dearer than an MX5 and now the rx8 is already cheaper than an mx.

clark20, Sep 27, 6:33pm
Guy at work just got one, 260km on 60L around town

gasngo2, Nov 27, 4:12am
they look ok done up,but are bland in factory form, take them for good long drives, dont nana them in town, change oil frequently, keep plugs clean and they will run good, drill out the front plastic grill with a series of holes in between the criss cross pattern and let the air in as the design is crap for intake, they havent got the time less shape of the fd rx7.
