Went in & asked if they had one in stock or could give me a price for a 6 volt battery. They looked confused so asked their supervisor (he was a bit older, probably 18) who asked 'what, a torch battery!'. 'no'. 'oh, motorbike then! Ive heard some old bikes have them' They truly didnt believe that there was such thing as a 6 volt car battery, wouldn't even look in a catalog or on the computer. Also this was the main Mt Wellington head office, not just a small branch. Why do I keep wasting my time even going there!

saki, Oct 1, 3:40pm
Whats wrong with waiting for your local auto sparky to open, lot less stress than dealing with repco babies.

whqqsh, Oct 1, 3:48pm
our local auto sparkies tend to charge like a wounded bull for batteries. I was driving past Sat arvo, when the actual battery shops had closed, & got a call from the painter that my car was almost ready & thought if they had one Id get everything ready to go.

franc123, Oct 1, 3:50pm
Thats something you would go to an auto electrician to get, not Repco, its highly doubtful that they would even have one in stock, Appco might if you were lucky as they are a bit more trade and electrical focussed.Remember you are talking to the generation that thinks a 1990 Mitsi VR4 is "old school" LMAO.I think you will find that less and less people are "wasting my time even going there", all the auto parts bargains are on overseas websites, not in a Repco shop.Heavy things like batteries are a bit of a different story by the time they're freighted sadly.

icemans1, Oct 1, 3:52pm
pay peanuts ya get monkeys.

franc123, Oct 1, 3:56pm
^^ It goes a bit higher than that, the monkeys on the counter are hardly responsible for what gets stocked and what doesn't and what price gets charged.

whqqsh, Oct 1, 4:05pm
Maybe not, I have bought a 6 volt car battery from the Manukau branch last year. & it was on the shelf

franc123, Oct 1, 4:07pm
Well they may have decided to drop them in that time, its not like they would be a fast mover for them.

gunhand, Oct 1, 4:14pm
Yep, why would they stock a slow moving item like that! They are there to make money. Turn over = $$. Having a 6 volt battery in stock hopeing someone on a Saturday will come in and buy it just isnt good sence. Its funny how many people excpect places like Repco to have every part of there odd ball/ or very old car just sitting there in every branch in NZ just in case. Isnt going to happen
However they certainly could get you one.

cowboy110, Oct 1, 4:33pm
Repco.".What an auto store outta be"They also pride themselves on their website as "New Zealands largest retailer of automotive batteries."Fine, they may not have had a 6 volt battery in stock but you'd expect them to at least try and help.A torch battery!.WTF

bash, Oct 1, 5:00pm
try asking for pionts for a humber snipe lol thy dont even no who makes them so thy can start the computer lol lol lol and get them to read a parts book not even ! thy are fools what happen to x micanics doing this job where thy could give you some frendly advice ! now thy cart put there pants on properly or hat

glenn_michelle, Oct 1, 5:14pm
^^^^
not many ex mechanics willing to work for next to no money,as said ealier you pay peanuts you get monkeys

franc123, Oct 1, 5:20pm
Its even scarier when you ask for a water pump or a top radiator hose for a '68 VW Beetle and they actually come back with a listing.Remember that their staff are pulled from the same pool of the likes of KFC, Macca's, supermarkets and petrol stations, some of them are no doubt interested in cars but the bottom line is they are generic retail staff whos job it is to relieve you of your $, not to give technical advice.

les6, Oct 1, 5:56pm
try buying a short oil filter(Z40) for a 350 chev.$49!

gunhand, Oct 1, 6:03pm
Why would you ask for this in the first place! dont know your VWs huh.

countrypete, Oct 1, 6:07pm
Well I can tell you that the local Repco branch has helpful, well informed staff (and no, I do not work there).I assume the Repco branches you refer to are in Auckland, where pretty much all the inhabitants meet your description.

Even stranger, some of the local Supercheap guys seem to know a fair bit!

v8_mopar, Oct 1, 6:10pm
Ok i find this funny but makes me feel old :/

Bet they think its a good car to hehe

oh and they would think its 'old skool' ;)

franc123, Oct 1, 6:10pm
Oh for goodness sake it was a pisstake, what do you reckon.

franc123, Oct 1, 6:11pm
Oh silly me for spelling it incorrectly!

v8_mopar, Oct 1, 6:13pm
well you only spelt it wrong if you have pimples

gunhand, Oct 1, 6:25pm
So you actually asked for this item or is what you wrote the piss take.
I worked for Repco for a while and I can assure you I delt with many trades and the amount of smart arse mechanics (and others) there were amazed me. I soon learnt who I wouldnt take my car to let alone mypushbike. What really amazed me is how little information they came in with and excpected staff to know which of 7 Cv joints would fit that model. And when you ask a few questions they say, dont know, its a 95. Oh yea real helpfull. And you then explain there 7 options and you need more info. And the next day they come back for another item with same limited info. Then get towy because they get the wrong one.
Sorry but untill you know both sides of a story I wouldnt comment.
And I could go on all night about the Fwits we dealt with.
Thick and hopeless people are not limited to Repco Mcdonalds KfC Or service stations. they are in every form of employment.
Half these so called whiz mechanics wouldnt last 5 minutes in some of these places. and would use the excuse of not being paid enough as to why they left.
Not all repco staff are hopeless but some are and are only there for the pay packet.
I will deffend most workers in such jobs because im awhere of the crap they put up with from the public and the company.

r15, Oct 1, 6:32pm
they charge because they pay their staff properly. if you want cheap go to repco / the supermarket. if you want knowledge, be prepared to pay for it.

countrypete, Oct 1, 6:32pm
Well said Gunhand.My point entirely.

thunderbolt, Oct 1, 6:34pm
I have also been on both sides of the Repco counter and agree with Gun.
No surprise that the same people who complain about the prices, also expect every spare part ever made to sitting waiting on the Repco shelf on the odd chance someone will need one.
It costs money to hold slow moving stock people.

gunhand, Oct 1, 6:36pm
Thankyou. And what do some of you want in places like repco! Geriatric dudes who know there way around a 65 VW or a Studibaker (cars people really dont have on mass anymore) but wouldnt know anything about 2010 Subaru with its technical mumbo jumbo. Works both ways.
