My consumption varies quite alot, at worst 9.7 km/L at best 14.6km/L but mostly somewhere between 10.2 and 12.5.It's wierd because I do almost exactly the same travelling every week.
Just change the numbers round as per the tittle of the post

100/9.7=10.309L per 100km 100/14.6=6.849L/100km
huge difference alright, same car or driver! windy days!

without even converting that I can see nearly 5kpl differance which is a lot!
There are a few reasons for that if you drive the same route!Tyre pressures have a heavy influence if low!Weather does not make much differance!are you filling to the brim each time or to the pump cut off!and finally how relaible is your odometer!

yeah, full tyres one way and flat the other way makes a diff.

=(1/A1)*100, where A1 is the cell containing the km/l figure.
Then format the number properties of the cell to custom, set as 0.00 "km/l"

According to the Energy Spot adverts its the golf clubs you carry around all the time .can make a difference of 10% .according to them!

Just divide 100km by the km/L figure. So for 9.7km/L the calculation is 100km / 9.7km/L = 10.31L/100km

What sort of vehicle is it! I would say that by having such a large difference in your consumption you are not filling the tank to the same level each time. Even my old 350 only had a 10% difference when it was driven around town or on the highway.

Yep. Unless you're filling from very low each time to the same level the variance in the pump cutoff sensitivity between different pumps would be enough on its own to acount for the difference.

I use more going from Auckland to Taupo than I use going from Taupo to Auckland - I reckon it's cos I'm going up more hills to Taupo, and it's downhill to Auckland.Could this be the same for your trips!

I've seen between 7.5 and 13l/100km depending on where I'm driving.
Stop start traffic and Wellington hills will absolutely murder economy.

Sweet. That means if I carry 10 sets of golf clubs all the time and achieve 10lt/100km, then take them all out, I should use bugger all gas!

Love your logic and you are actually partially right :)
Altitude actually has a small effect on fuel consumption and performance.Small as to the effect of 10% at 800metres compared to sea level.

Delboy 71 3 things spring to mind, wind is predominatly south west, so ging south more resistance, climbing to the volcanic plateau, on way to taupo, and the biggest effect is not wanting to get back to Auckland so driving slower.

Work done has an effect too. The extra work done to raise the vehicle to the nominal 400m above sea level of Taupo from the nominal 50m above sea level of Auckland certainly cannot be ignored!

I fill up at the same servo every week when my tank is about 1/4 to 1/8 full.I stop filling when the pump clicks off,I don't let the kids at the servo fill it (they always keep pumping after it clicks off for some reason)I'm the only one who drives my car.I do pretty much the same mileage over the same roads every week.

but you obviously dont drive it the same each week
if you are treating the car exactly the same, your consumption wont be more than 10% different

thrashing my work car will drop it from a best of 17 km/l down to 10 km/l
