How do i get lock nuts

bluetongue, Oct 7, 3:18pm
off the wheels without the nut key.

brute force and ignorance. otherwise try a tyre shop they may have aquired a few key nuts. offer them money so they don't hate you

an impact socket that is a little bit to small to fit over the nut and a big hammer.

Dot punch + hammer
Depends on the shape of the nut and how deeply set into the wheel it is

Preferably - someone else's socket. Or use an old one.

I've had this problem.Above methods didn't work - they were the round type with slots.I did manage to get three off by welding a bar to the nuts. The 4th one defied me.Fortunately protruding nuts on 4wd steel rims, so I got angry and attacked it with an angle grinder, split what was left of the nut off the stud, and replaced the stud.It would have been easier - if I'd had the tools handy - to make a newkey.A big PITA and waste of time.

Problem easily solved as to future theft of tyres.I bought a set of Kingstar ATs, so I doubt anybody would want to steal them.

Tighten up all of the others , jack car up and if ya lucky it will come off by hand. or with vice grips. If its the old key type, bash it with a hammer.

If its a puzzle nut type, get any puzzle nut key and grind/file the biggest lug of the 4 side, once it fits in ,in any patten it will take off all puzzle nuts.(its then a master).

go down to your tyre shop and ask them to take them off.they usually have ALL the keys

i measured the od of the lock nut then went to mitre 10 and bought a nut with the same id and welded it to the lock nut, after i removed the chrome with a grinder.
