I blew up my angle grinder on a job at home yesterday, what make of 125mm grinder do you guys recommend! Makita, Hitachi or Bosch among others! Gearbox seized after heating up rather quickly and snapped the motor shaft all happened rather quick, must admit it was a rather old unit and I wasn't overly concerned as all things wear out eventually.right.

I would go with Makita or Hitachi. Had a mate who ran a hire shop in aussy, he reckoned the hitachi had the edge on reliablilty. but I dont think you will go wrong with either. I had problems with the electrics on an expensive AEG drill so a bit weary of the gerry stuff myself. I now just buy hitachi. My Hitachi drop saw has done about 3 - 4 hours work most work days and just purrs along. as does the hitachi drills, angle grinder and nails guns I use.

I use my angle grinder for dusty work amongst other things (cutting fibro etc) and have found that even name brand ones give up after a couple of years even with regular blowing out. I now buy the low priced ones, currently predator from Placemakers, they have a 12 month warranty (long gone in my case). Cheap and cheerful! $32.00 as I recall.

I have a bosch GWS-7-125 which is the slim line one and I really like the thinner body on it, makes it a lot easier to hold. 720w I think it is. I would recommend it to others

+1. Been using one today that belongs to a friend (an engineer). He swears by it and it cops a fair bit of abuse daily.

I have a Makita 125mm (850 watt), A Bosch GWS 14-125 (1400 watt) and an old AEG 115mm (750 watt). The Bosch is defineatly the best (and the dearest) but make sure you get the Blue, not green if you buy Bosch. I also have a Flex 180mm and a Bosch 230mm. All good gear. Stevo
