are they are bolted on ,clipped in or just stuck on.! different method of removal required for each sort.

The ones stuck on with backing tape will come off intact and you can reglue them with the 3M product specifically made for that application which comes on a plastic backing strip.
Use a small bog spreader (50 mm-ish) and polish the edge smooth with fine sandpaper on a flat surface. Then use it to separate the backing tape from the painted surface and here is the important bit, use CRC or similar as a lubricant to prevent the backing tape from sticking to your spreader and rolling up.
If you get it right the 3M material will then stick to it after washing the surface of the backing tape with lacquer thinner to remove CRC residue.
