went and had a look at a friends mazda mpv van who said they wanted to fix their drivers power window which was broke after they left it down and rained, they then took it to a local professional mechanic who charged them $140 for "diagnosing fault and adjusting window as requested".
long story short i went and had a look today window was held up by tape and upon further inspection wood was placed to hold the window up, i thought fair enough took the wood out and then noticed that the motor and regulator have been removed and my friend knew nothing about this.
Where do they stand in getting the mechanic to fess up to taking the motor and reg and getting them a new one!
This guys a known crook and charges $250 for a "service" which is just a crappy oil change

It all depends on what the client requested. If they asked to "get the window back up at minimal cost" then that's what they got. But, $140 is a bit steep for such a job. OR, the mechanic is waiting for a part to arrive, so was unable to complete the job on the same day.

If that's the case, why go there in the first place!

First of all, what he charges for a service and what it covers is not relevant to this issue. Did the owner of the car test the window when they paid the bill! Have you tried asking the mechanic to explain what work was done and how you can diagnose and adjust a block of wood! It may be a simple misunderstanding, he may have advised that the motor was fault and the wood is a temporary measure to keep the car secure. No point making accusations until you have spoken to the mechanic.

they didn't know untill it was too late. they client asked simply for the window to be fixed. why would he take the motor and not give it back to the client

You need to ask the mechanic these questions, not us.

LMAO, if he's a "known crook" explain how and why this vehicle ended up in his premises in the first place.!Also how do you know that his services are crappy! If anyone thinks they are getting comprehensive servicing and checks from these high profile express lube outfits for less than $100 in under 10 minutes they are dreaming, although admittedly $250 is too high for an entry level service on a petrol vehicle.

Firstly, give your friend a twat round the ear.You take a car in to get fixed, you make sure it is fixed before you part with your money and drive it away. That said, Tuesday morning first thing I'd be turning up at the "professional" mechanics ready to cause a stink.

Or you could try asking in a civil manner, much more likely to get a result. If you start off aggressive, them expect to get it back in return.

Yeah.don't you find it interesting (or annoying) when there's no feedback from OP at all!
