Does any one know if the doors on the PC were the same as the HR holden, so these 418628058 would fit the Vauxhall!

neville48, Oct 27, 5:54pm
No the doors were definatly not the same on a PC as an HR.One was Pommie, one was aussie, no resemblance unless by colour.

mrfxit, Oct 27, 6:11pm
LOL<LOL <LOL<LOL>>>>>> Nope

At least not without some VERY creative refitting

The Victor Doors do NOT interchange with the Velox/Cresta in any of those Vauxhall models.

rob_man, Oct 27, 6:34pm
However, Gemini doors will interchange with Chevette doors, as will the screen.

There is some interchangeability between the Holden HB Toranas and Vauxhall HB Viva'sas they were a virtual lift of the vauxhall product and the later 6 cylinder LC, LJ etc were stretched and modified to suit the 6 cyl engines and Australian conditions but the HB Viva design similarity was still quite obvious.
The later Torana's/Sunbirds were a more Australian indigenous in design taking strong cues from the German Opel GM products as did the Commodores.
Quite a number of Holdens from the HK HT HG series as were some of the later ones were rebadged as Chevrolets in the GM South African market, those examples were in fact fitted with both Chevrolet 6 cylinder and V8 engines.
I drove a 250cid Chevrolet 6 cylinder one years ago around near when they were new, quite a goer as I recall.
The name Chevrolet Constantia and Kommando comes to mind based on the Holdens from 1968 up to 1977
The Chevette's were designed as a "world" car and there were a lot of interchangeable parts bodywise and to a lesser degree in power trains.
They came out with Opel Kadett's from Germany and Vauxhall's,Chevette from UK plus various other countries in CKD form .including NZ .Chevrolet Chevette's USA and South America and Acadian & Pontiac divisions made em in Canada, Isuzu Gemini in Japan & Australia and later rebadged as Holden Gemini,Pontiac( a la Daewoo) Le Mans ex South Korea and odd other brands.
I used to work on a Chevrolet 4 door hatchback back in the 1970's when I worked for our local GM-H garage.
It was LHD and had an oddball Chevrolet OHC 4 cylinder engine of around 1.6 litres I recall.
Worked on a couple of LHD Opels the Germans working on the Clyde had there too an Opel Kapitan V8 Chevrolet powered but new from factory in Germany and a 2 door Opel CommodoreOHC 6 cylinder 3 litre.

I dont think anybody has looked at what you wanted to buy.Try Basisnz.co.nz they should have what you need

ema1, Oct 27, 7:21pm
The Opel Commodore I mentioned before in post #7 was infact a 2.8 litre OHC 6 cylinder .not 3 litre .confusion reigns as it was about 28years ago or so, quite a while ago. It was shaped like a 2 door version of the VB-VC Holden Commodore.
Looking front on it looked almost identical to the Aussie Commy's.

noodle34, Oct 27, 8:20pm
"It was similar to the Australian Holden HR, but larger and better trimmed"

This is quoted out of wikapedia

Monza!

I can confirm that Peter Brock wanted to import these and market HDT versions, at least one was built/modded by them, I can remember seeing a picture of one on the front of a Wheels magazine in about 1983.Very nice machine.

From others - "I used to work on a Chevrolet 4 door hatchback back in the 1970's when I worked for our local GM-H garage.
It was LHD and had an oddball Chevrolet OHC 4 cylinder engine of around 1.6 litres that was called a CHevrolet Chevette - one was owned by a employee of the US Embassy here in Wgtn in the 1970s
Interestesting 2 Employees also owned a very rare Mazda RX4 Wagon and RX3 both were LHD (RX4 & RX3 Wagons only sold Japan & US)

as for the ".28years ago or so, quite a while ago. It was shaped like a 2 door version of the VB-VC Holden Commodore. that was a Opel Monza around 30-50 were brought NZ New 1986-1988 a Friend of mine owns one of them here in Upper Hutt in Orange a 3.0S Automatic - There is identical one here in the Hutt Valley - around 10-12 surive 90% were Automatics engines were 3.0 although earliers ones 2.8 and Germany may have had a 2.5 option - Vauxhall also badged them for their market
In CHCH a 5spm 3.0 E was owned and could take on a SS Commodore VC-VH with no problems

There is Commodore A Coupe in NZ is a GS it had a 2.5 engine - and once was 253V8 Re-powered owned by Wing Commander of Air Force based in Blenheim (he sold it)- last heard being restored with its orginal motor
Neville Cross who runs the Opel Forum (Great site) owns a later Commodore B 1972-1977 and is also a Monza owner

Opel Monza That's the name that escaped me last night when I posted. Thanks J.W. interesting oddities in this country for sure and when taking time to seek them out , there are actually quite a few cars that weren't here new!
I recall years ago the United States Operation Deep Freeze Base in Christchurch used to frequently bring in their cars from the ''States" Not so much now thought.
You'd often see US Navy and USAF Pick Up trucks around the place mainly Chevrolets Dodges and Fords all in the Blue Grey color with military markings on them.
Theres the odd one still "stooging" around down our way actually , saw one yesterday down south a Chevrolet around 1970's model and I see a 1959-61 Ford truck possibly a F-150 or F-250 ! every week when I'm down south on my delivery run.

Ema, on the subject of the PC Cresta, did you know that one was brought out from the factory with a 318 chrysler V8,, Sth Africa i think.

bigjerry, Oct 28, 6:55pm
Bloody good reading guys. Its great to think about the early models that were small runs and early versions etc, Even cooler finding out how many are left. Great info, cheers.

"on the subject of the PC Cresta, did you know that one was brought out from the factory with a 318 chrysler V8,, Sth Africa i think "
- Why would a GM product have Chrysler V8 -Thats a new one on me - I have not seen a test from Car Today South Africa on that :)

Sure there V8 Installations of Ford Capris , Cortinas and Sierra but these were Ford V8s a few of Ford Sierra V8s have turned up in the UK recently

In 1969 the first commodore evolved from the 4 door /4 cylinder Opel record, also the monza came along in 1978 with same engine which later became the injected 3 litre as in my '86 Monza GSE.and hello Jullian.

monzaman, Oct 28, 10:05pm
That was the Opel Monza.I have photo of mine signed by Peter Brock.also I saw that commodore A coupe at Just GM spares in Blenheim for sale for $1000 in about 1998 after 253 removed and original 6cyl engine and g/box on a pallet inside building.got a couple of photos of it.

julian.walls, Oct 29, 1:02pm
To monzaman- You stil have the Monza - that is great to hear its been years - My Manta Laid up - Vectra a 2000 16 still my A-B car- Are you still making the Zambuka .! lethal stuff :)
As for Commodore name for Opel was from late 67 in 4 door and Coupe -
I have not Been on the Opel Forum for a while - last Heard Commodore was in process of restoration. I met the Wing Commander and he brought his car around to a friends place in Renwick -I too have photos when it was 253V8 powered, locals nick named it "The Brown Bullet" - it was Bronze metallic with black vinyl roof and Right hand Drive!

Interesting in the 1970s Cadillac imported 2 Diplomats (they were the Chev 327 powered sedans based on the Admiral) and looked seriously at selling them in US as Cadillacs - Of cause later last of Opel Omegas were sold as Cadillac Catera - a US mate of mine once owned one.

monzaman, Oct 29, 3:56pm
Yes I still have my Monza (still in exc. cond. and to drive),it just went over 150,,000 miles on way to Ellerlie car show earlier this year infact and was one of V.O.S club display cars as well as being in several other Auckland car shows in last three years including Whenuapai, next show will be Galaxy of Cars at Western Springs (instead of at MOTAT).It wasn't me making zambuka.A few other monzas have been sold and gone to south island since I last saw you when I got my jumbo hiace van from Christchurch nearly 5 years ago now, still have that van as pictured in my listing,Will no doubt see you around the MB,I'm am quite often.

ema1, Oct 29, 7:33pm
Yes was aware of that one plus some other South African oddities like V8 Ford Capri's etc

ema1, Oct 29, 7:40pm
Bit like the Rootes Group's .Sunbeam Tiger V8 using a Ford V8 engine, Chrysler when they took a major interest in Rootes frowned on that alliance to the point that the Tiger V8 ceased production rather abruptly.
Pity they didn't use the little Chrysler 273cid V8 in em that would have been a winner and kept things tidy for the Chrysler management!

bigjerry, Oct 29, 7:42pm
I always thought a V8 Superminx would be cool. I am a bit strange like that.

ema1, Oct 29, 10:18pm
I guess if the Sunbean Alpine >>>>>which morphed with a 260cid Ford V8 into the Sunbeam Tiger factory produced a Super Minx would have similar under pinnings so interesting one there B.J.!

poppajn, Oct 30, 12:47pm
Just been to a car show, 500 plus cars, one that took my eye a PB with twin SU,s and extractors, Why SU,s! I don,t know.
