When does a a Passing lane become a Fast lane or

aragorn2003, Oct 28, 6:44pm
vice versa! or are fast lanes non existant!

sorry bout the stutter lol

aragorn2003, Oct 28, 6:52pm
Just to clarify. was heading from Hamilton to Auckland today and outside of Hamilton you have a 'keep left unless passing sign' and then the double lanes whichcontinue all the way to Auckland and turn into 3 lanes when you hit Bombay . when does a passing lane become a fast lane!

cuda.340, Oct 28, 6:54pm
it becomes the fast lane when you're passing everything in sight.

NZTools, Oct 28, 6:54pm
It doesnt matter wether it is a passing lane or a motorway. You keep left unless passing.

gabbysnana, Oct 28, 7:06pm
He means someone sits in the fast lane at 100kms blocking everyone instead of moving into the left lane.

gammelvind, Oct 28, 7:08pm
Could you pass that message on to every nana in a suzuki swift doing 70 km in the outside lane.

johnf_456, Oct 28, 7:10pm
Its more known as the speedsters lane as discussed here before, regardless

robyn276, Oct 28, 7:10pm
And travel at the speed limit.

loose.unit8, Oct 28, 7:17pm
Meh, there's no law which says that

loose.unit8, Oct 28, 7:20pm
What's the point in complaining about it when you can just choose a different lane and pass them!

aragorn2003, Oct 28, 7:21pm
I was always told that the right hand lane is a fast lane which got me thinking with the 'keep left unless passing signs' , was I taught wrong lol.

And yes I encountered a little car which was doing 95ks in the passing lane shadowing the car in the left lane so noone could pass GRR

therafter1, Oct 28, 7:29pm
Well these fellows sure do rave on then http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/about-driving/keeping-left.html

And without mentioning the dreaded 'speed' word they also suggest that you "don't use the lane closest to the centre line if you will hold up other vehicles" . I don't really know why they need to cover it as it sounds like common courtesy to me, something that is noticeably absent from many incompetents out there !

There aint no fast lane in NZ and there never will be. Sadly.

gedo1, Oct 29, 3:33am
Oh yes there is !Check it out for yourself using google.
Meh

fryan1962, Oct 29, 4:54am
HUH someone sits in the fast lane at 100klm and blocks everyone! what speed are they doing! do they have special licence! are there drivers that are allowed to do more than 100klm !

I think it is people that do the 80klm or 90klm in the right lane are more of a problem

crzyhrse, Oct 29, 6:51am
WTF is a klm!

And yes, people that sit in the right lane doing a speedometer indicated 100km/h or a shade under are holding me up because I know that my speedometer reads about 5% higher than actual speed and compensate for it. They think they're doing 98km/h but they're often doing just 94km/h.

Since you seem to be so het up about others not breaking the law, you should bear in mind that the right lane hogs are breaking the law.

cuda.340, Oct 29, 7:10am
in the UK you're not allowed to cruise the outside lane, it's a passing lane only. cruising at 85mph i thought i would ok. nope! pulled over by the police & given a stern warning about holding up traffic.(no ticket for speeding tho)

crzyhrse, Oct 29, 7:19am
I passed a Polo on the motorway the other evening - it was the only vehicle in the right lane that I could see and it was doing maybe 90km/h. That one didn't impede my progress because, as usual, I was exactly where I should be - in one of the left lanes. As I disappeared into the distance it was still in the right lane, the driver apparently completely oblivious to the fact there had also been several vehicles passing it on the left.

lookoutas, Oct 29, 8:18am
Had the exact same happen the last time I was in the smoke - only that time, there was a car in the left lane about 50 mtrs ahead and the 95KMH right lane plonker was gaining by about 1cm per KM. He got passed on the left and cut in front of, but as I disappeared into the distance - no-one else was game enough, so they were all held up. Last I saw he was alongside and must of fair been pissing everyone off.

loose.unit8, Oct 29, 9:54am
OK, so why does everyone ignore that!I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for traveling in the right hand lane.

People usually spread themselves around the left and right hand lanes as if they are equal

bigjerry, Oct 29, 12:39pm
I speed in the right hand lane, often. at least 105. I wouldn't call it a fast lane though.

crzyhrse, Oct 29, 2:15pm
Asked and answered!

The same reason people turn right into the left lane on a multilane road.

bashfulbro, Jan 18, 6:19am
the term " Fast Lane ", is common, however, the speed limit is the same,in both lanes , it is just plain ignorance, travelling in the right lane when not overtaking a slower vehicle.
