Which of these is a better one to buy!

mopeds, Nov 12, 9:15pm
The suzuki IMO would be the best choice although it will be heavy on gas

franc123, Nov 12, 9:20pm
They're both bad choices IMO, look at 4 cylinder (1.6-2.0 petrol) Escudos instead or even better an ordinary 2WD car if offroad capabilities aren't needed, its money down the toilet otherwise in terms of running costs.

phillip.weston, Nov 12, 9:21pm
what are you going to be using it for! to me they aren't even in the same class.

katje, Nov 12, 9:45pm
I live in the country. a Bit of off road is involved as well as carrying a lot of stuff back and forth from town. roof racks and a tow bar are necessary. I know they aren't similar but right now they are the two in my list Ive narrowed down Im just trying to work out which one is a better idea in terms of cost. One fuels, one is diesel, one is a huge monster one is small and swift, etc etc

katje, Nov 12, 9:46pm
Yeah I know thats the con so Im wondering if the mitsi is a better choice just for the cost of fuel. But maybe its worse for other reasons. I can't find anyone who has had one of these so its hard to workout. Lots of people I know have a suzuki and rave about them. I love the look of them and the feel of them myself plus they are small and light. However they are costly gas wise and they are not very roomy for carrying a lot of stuff

phillip.weston, Nov 12, 9:57pm
The Mitsi is much newer and much safer, but it's got much 'softer' than the earlier Pajeros in order to become more comfortable and safer. The diesel engine is fairly reliable but I feel at 300,000kms that its life expectancy is nearing its end. I would expect the Pajero to consume on average 9-10L/100km and when combined with the extra RUCs and more frequent and more expensive routine maintenance costs it will probably be the same cost to run as the Escudo. Not to mention the Pajero is nearly 3 times the price to begin with.

drew2009, Nov 13, 4:28am
Both bad choices.
Wouldn't you be better off with a ute or a Hilux Surf or
Nissan Terrano or Mistral!
That Pajero will have about had it at those kms, whatever you buy try get something lower mileage.

franko171, Nov 13, 5:26am
get a rav 4

mugenb20b, Nov 13, 7:06am
Both of those POS have high mileages, and should be avoided. Try and get a later model Suzuki Vitara with a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder petrol motor. Even if it costs a bit more up front, it will end up being cheaper in the long run than some older vehicles with potential mechanical problems.

katje, Nov 13, 8:06am
Had one ;)

katje, Nov 13, 8:07am
Yes thats m issue witht he mitsi love it but Im wary because of all the mitsi horror stories of ovrheating dying engines and other issues once they get high kms

katje, Nov 13, 8:18am
Your imput into the mitsi has been very valuable thank you!

shuddupowh, Nov 13, 8:28am
Yep steer clear of the Mitsi with high KMs.nothing but a money trap. But i reckon look for a Surf or Terrano - both are very good and reliable. My father in laws old Terrano (turbo diesel) was hell good to drive, power when you needed it and great for towing. And the Surfs are just plain reliable Toyotas, never heard bad about them.

taipan4, Nov 13, 8:47am
be wary of the later hilux 3litre common rail, could be probs

peasgood, Nov 13, 10:01am
Surfs pop heads all the time, would have the Pajero any day,IF it has a service history, those 3.2 diesels go well, hot running ks are good .

katje, Nov 13, 11:20am
youre the first one to recommend the mitsi have you had one!

lugee, Nov 13, 11:24am
Love the question on the Pajero: "Any rough idea of what will ned to be done to it in the next 30,000 kms!"

katje, Nov 13, 12:35pm
Its a fair question. When I sold a crv I told them in the next 40,000 kms the waterpump and cambelt would need to be done and the tyres probably changed just to give them an idea.

kazbanz, Nov 13, 12:41pm
Devils advocate--whats a "bit" of offroad!.Why do you need a towbar!-Ie what are ya towing!
Reason for asking is that there a re a fair few all wheel drive vehicles that might be better for the job that those you are looking at

peasgood, Nov 13, 3:22pm
#17 had one for 7years,no big problems, but not the model you posted.

mugenb20b, Nov 13, 3:24pm
when overheated. Otherwise, they just keep going.

n3d4sp3d, Nov 13, 3:57pm
only two known faults with a pajero of this milage and they are the timing chain may be worn and starting to make a bit of noise and also the trans could be suspect if previous owners have'nt serviced properly. this motor was designed with fuso trucks so is a strong motor have seen them up to 500k as long as serviced regulary. also there more room in the pajero than suzuki

msigg, Nov 13, 4:13pm
If serviced that mits will do another 100,000kms. I would be doing the radiator as any overheating will kill any engine. The suzuki will do another 100,000km if looked after too. You need to get them checked out by someone competent, check on compression.Id put $1000 away for a complete service if you buy any of them.
