Yes thats the P/S. The brake fluid is in front of the brake booster which is bolted on the fire wall with the yellow lid. All cars I've ever looked under the bonnet of are like this.

i was 75% sure it was but that nagging 25% got me asking, as stated got a lot going on in my mind so just needed confirmation. it was lower than low and took more than i anticipated, will definitely check it more regularly.presumably leaking again somewhere but nothing got mentioned at last wof so will get mechanic to check when doing oil & filter soon.

Those old Primeras and Bluebirds, which I'm presuming it is, are notorious for leaking around the power steer lines, the flexible lines harden up and dont seal properly, not helped by those horrible wire hose clips they use, thats the usual reason the fluid level drops over time.Tighten them all up and if the leaks persist changing the hoses is the only long term fix.

That rings a bell, my partners old P11 Wagon we had (traded it in) had a leak in the P/S hose, I couldnt see the leak but they said it did (wof man) so got it fixed and surprise the level stayed the same for ages.weird.

it had been rejected previous wof for a leak on it so i presumed it would be ok since he fixed it. i just need to remember its a 20yr old car thats had a hard life over its almost 250k km and check those little things

^^^Yep in a nutshell, giving the area a good steam clean and making sure the level in the tank is where it should be BEFORE going for a WOF is a good idea too, but you didn't hear that from me.Obviously with more serious leaks from either the pump or rack they should be fixed properly.
