bought a bike last month and was about to go on first trail ride on Fridat show weekend. long story short, my bike broke clutch cable in the car park, so off home i go after 20 feet of trail ride. 4 others keep going for the "3 hour return ride". 8 hours later i get a text saying they just got home. all 4 drowned their bikes in the Waipara river, and ended up stranded and having to push bikes back to car park through 3 high river crossings, 1 guy got lost and ended up sitting at the pub for 2 hours. moral of the story, sometimes limited maintenance is advantageous, and also check the river level before you start a motorbike trail ride.

This is where the problem is ^^^^^. Classic, but common mistake. When I did 4wding, you ALWAYS get out of the truck and check water crossings and rivers. You also need a trip leader, safety officer and someone at the back, keep checking your rear view mirrors so no one gets lost or left behind. Good story though.
