Mileage how much per week as sales rep

timmy071, Nov 12, 6:47am
I have searched google regarding how many miles one can travel as a sales rep per week before it is illegal but can't seem to find any info. I am currently travelling 3300 kilolmetres a fornight and calling on up to 40 clients per week. Can anyone help me with a site with legal information.
Thanks

im sure theres lots of people that would do it for you. truck drivers have a hours limit dont they! perhaps you would come under that category. 70 hours a week limit of whatever the limit is. how many hours do u do!

I don't think there's any legal time limit unless you're a commercial driver (truck, taxi, etc).
Of course, there could be OSH issues, I guess.

330km a day, how long is your day!

when you put it that way it doesnt sound like much. they would be mainly open road too i would assume!

330km with 8 client meetings per day average sounds a lot to me, especially if there's a lot of paperwork / data entry to do.

up to 8 a day. i spose its hard to judge until OP gives us a little more detail

Thanks mm12345 thats what I think. My day is abouta 10 hour day with driving and appts and then anything from one and a half to two hours paper work after that so quite full on days plus out of town 4 nights 5 days for three weeks in a row. I thought this is excessive but maybe I am lucky to have a job. LOL would appreciate feed back from other South Island Sales Reps. All my travel is by car only

I'm an ex sales rep and I've never heard of any milage limit for reps.
The trouble is that you are stopping DRIVINGregularly even though its to visit clients so arguably you are taking lots of breaks -from driving

As long as it,s not in a vechicle covered by RUC,s and Log book regulations, how is it illegal!

There is no limit. As long as you are not driving when tired or under the influence of drink or drugs.

Heavy vehicle logbooks run on hours, not mileage, and at any rate, even the 12 hour day to which you allude is perfectly legal as long as breaks are taken at the appropriate times. Taxi logbooks I believe work slightly differently.

Does not sound like much but I did 110km today and I never left Auckland Airport during my 8 hour shift.
We drive between the terminals and each trip can vary from 4 km per trip to 5 km per trip from base to the terminals and back to base.
Our van is a July 2008 Toyota Hiace and its got 287,000 km and never left the airport.

there is no law on salesrep hour or driving time,, you can drive as many hours as you like,,you do not carry paying customers so you are not important,,

Call in at the next dairy shed you see beside the road and ask the guys what time they start in the morning and finish at night.

Thanks everyone for positive and other comments. just sold my business that I was working 70 hours a week in so long hours and hard work don't scare me but working for $16.25 a hour and away from home 4 nights every week is a challenge when it was suppose to be 2 nights a week.! P.S. Don't do drugs or drink so I guess 1650 km per week seems acceptable I will just have to take more Nanna naps throughtout the day!
