Diesels with high kms

jazzyjack1, Nov 20, 10:17am
If a Diesel with 220000kms on it and serviced every 5000km - would it be ok or about to fall apart!

Cummins or cat would be ok,

Be nervous if it starts with the letter M though.

My 1994 diesel pajero has 222000 km on it and seem to be good for another 100000km at least.

I'd say you'd be fine.Shouldn't be any bother if it's had that kind of servicing. If the rest of the vehicle looks well cared for to it's probably worth a punt.

220,000kms for an engine is not high by todays standards. especially not for a diesel.

a mercedes is likely cosmetically falling apart though like most euro stuff tends to do at high kms - eg head linings, arm rests, sear covers etc

Hmmm that sounds like its been babied. I havn't had that engine but I would be expecting it should be running synthetic oil with oil changes every 16'000km.

I think you should check up on the correct interval, obviously no harm in changing it earlier but it does make me wonder if someone stuck in the past has been running it on Diesel Mineral oil which may not actually be very good for that engine. Look into it further, I would suggest talking to a Mercedes mechanic, especially if it has been run on the wrong oil for advice. Also confirm the correct oil and change interval.

In terms of km's thats barely run in for one of those engines. Mercedes Sprinter Diesels etc of that era are regularly on here with over a million km's on the clock. Likewise Taxi drivers overseas use them and put horrendous km's on the clock.

It has 20000km service intervals 6.5 litres 10w40 semi synthetic.

my 2c toyota has 500,000km on clock.been well looked after regular oil changes and is still going strong.just sold a hiace with 1.2 mill ks on clock same apart from regular maintenance. have an isuzu elf 4bc2 coming up to 5 hundy as well :)))) these jap diesels must be unreliable lol:)))))

We have a 2008 Toyota Hiace 3.0 diesel and its got 289,000 km and its serviced every 7,500km and goes better than a new one.

Its all in how they are looked after! Ive seen many Toyota and Nissan diesels with over 500,000kms on original motors and I even have a Mitsubishi L300/Delica daily driver at the moment with 397,000kms on the motor! it is getting a little bit tired but cant see why it wont get another 40-50,00kms before it dies. Cant really comment on euros havint delt with them enough.

Have a Diesel with 500,000kms on the clock regular servicingno problems with the engine.Just the other parts of the vehicle wearing out.
