Looking for some opinions on what is the best RTV silicone gasket goo, for sealing up a sump pan and other mechanical applications.
I have always used ultra copper as i know its the best but looking for some opinions on cheaper stuff.

Ados contact adhesive for a sump, i also use blue hylema, not sure on spelling but works very well, doesn't go hard like silicon, i believe same stuff rolls use on their engines.

"gasket goo' for surfaces that may need to be opened again( quad and bike side covers, tappet covers etc), hylomar for seals and flat faces ( absolutely magic stuff for internal oil pump - faces , mounts etc)

beware using contact adhesive on pans and sump faces, only apply to one side or the next time you have to open it you'll be there a while, and spend a lot of time and effort just to get a workable surface for refit, I'd use hylomar or a bead type to hold a gasket in place while fitting before contact

Stag was the sealer of choice for RR for many years, red compound in a tin, great 'take up' ( would give a good seal with up to 10 thou of warp) and easy 'release'

Thanks guys i had never heard of using contact adhesive on a sump.
Getting sick of oil dripping all over the drive from the sump pan so i'm going to get it sealed up this weekend.

I tend to use Loctite Greymaxx for things you don't want to leak/worry about again (sump pans etc), or Clear Silicone RTV or I forget the name but its Loctite branded and is black silicone RTV. Depending on what you're sealing as to what you use really

thanks guys all good stuff

Just read some technical data on that blue hylomar. Sounds like great stuff might have to give it a try.

I use 3 bond grey on all gearboxes I do works awesome!

We always do both surfaces on a sump, mostly on heavy truck sumps.

I should add that it's not cheap - but it does the job perfectly every single time. You may save $20 on a cheaper equivalent but end up having to do the job twice then the cheap stuff leaks.
