Finding diff ratio

Pretty simple. whats the best way to find the ratio on my diff!

yup done that but he didint want to tell me his ratio. how do i calculate what may ratio is after iv pulled it to bits =)

count the teeth on the spur gear (the one that is connected to the drive shaft from trans) and the gear on the diff head. divide the number of teeth on the diff head by the number on the spur gear, ie 35/8= 4.375. There is your ratio. My nissan had 35:8 stamped on the diff head too.

so mine was 41/10 which is 4.1

Jack the vehicle up and mark to opposite wheels with chalk at the bottom,,, then mark the drive shaft with chalk so you can count how many turns there is. Some one lay under the car,, to count the no of turns the drive shaft does, Get two of your mates, or your wife and your girl friend to turn both side wheels at the same time in the same direction for one full turn till the chalk is at the bottom. If your drive shaft turns 4.5 times then you have a 4.5 to 1 diff ratio.
