how easy is it to change the bearings in a subaru box! I have noticed mine making a bit of a rumble, assuming its one on the input shaft as the rumble stops when you press the clutch

Yeah probably not worth the hassle jsbike, Its a shame i don't have any pics of gear sets or any just lying around i could show you what bearings are probably failing or the more common ones are the ones at the back of the split casing. the main problem is removing 5th gear as they always seem to strip the keyway out when ya press it off, i've just had a clean up the other day so i don't have any gear parts lying around but the good news is that you can change the front diff ratio over to suite yours so its not paramount that you need to find the right ratio box, (yours will probably be a 4.1 ratio)and if you really wanted to replace the bearings at a low cost you could always find a non turbo box and use the bearings from that;) as they are less subject to abuse and the same bearing as turbo boxes just weaker gearsets

Cheers,I had a feeling id need to press gears off to get new bearings on

So best option is most likely just keep using till goes bang and then chuck my front diff into another box if the new box is a different ratio. Is there any way to ID the ratio from the outside!

Yep that would be what i would do. gbox part number near the starter motor on the gearbox housing that starts with ty752.or if thats missing then try the id plate on the near the left hand strut tower check that number on this chart here.

If that fails check the rear diff ratio there will be a sticker on the alloy backing plate stating the ratio
