due to burst radiator hose, cooling system was quite neglected and coolant rusty brown/red colour and its all over engine, including on the rough casting of aluminium rocker cover etc.normal cleaning won't look at it, what shifts it! someone will know t.i.a folks.

Oxalic acid solution.You can buy crystals at Mitre 10 etc in the paint department.Dissolve in water make it a strong solution, brush it on, rinse off after 10 mins or so.Careful as it's quite toxic. Seems to be safe on alloys.
