over prepainted panels. Why cant I use house paints.Whats the benefit from using auto paint. We doing a tidy up.Not a big glossy look at me job.Been told to use enamels undercoats and top coats.Roller it on etc Already used an acrylic system on the roof and it looks good.

The best idea is to use Dulux high gloss or semi gloss exterior enamel. Get some enamel spraying thinners (not two way thinners) from super cheap, mixhalf paint, half thinners and spray on with a good spray unit. Use enamel undercoats, they are stronger.

Go to someone that specialises in marine paint and check out their 2 pack roll on systems. International paints make a good one, that gives almost a quality spray like finish when applied correctly, and the paint is really durable. It won't quickly fade off like an enamel will in the weather, and you should expect it still to be looking great after 10 years. It will be more expensive, but I think you will be impressed if you do it right.

Thanks for that.Todays mission is sanding, filling dents etc.already been around various paint shops for ideas. Its just trying to sort out best method and not just buying paint cos the shopkeeper swears by it.Was looking at an enamels system yesterday. Now just need good weather.Covered area not an option.

Try International phone 0800 808 807
web page yachtpaint.com or email tech.support@yachtpaint.com
Burnsco stock it, also have info booklets etc. I'm not sure how good a deal they give!
Other paint manufacturers also do similiar products eg altex.
I've seen results of International and was extremely impressed. It wasn't obvious that the job wasn't professionally sprayed!
The international process is 1-prime with Interprotect (and this can go on top of single pack in sound condition *although not 100% endorsed by International) 2- undercoat with Perfection undercoat 3 - Top coat with Perfection
Great durable product, but like all paint jobs, most of the results is in the preparation, however if you use this stuff correctly, it will still look great in 10 years.

Didn't read the link too carefully but it seemed that they were using Brightside (sp) which is the single pack stuff I think! They were thinning it down and applying heaps of coats and lots of sanding, which will work great no doubt, but the time involved on a house bus will be huge.
The Perfection self levels very good and you can get a great result by just 2 rolled applications of the top coat. (Some colours are better if gently tipped of with brush).
Another thing to note is that International have a new single pack paint now that is much more durable than the brightside. Sorry can't think of the name at present, but I'm sure the website will list it.

Given that you want to use a house paint, you will need a primer that will key to both the existing paint and and then be a suitable base for what follows.

I suggest you use smooth surface sealer and go from there.
Maybeatest on a smallpanel would be a good idea.
A talk with a knowledgeable person at a paint shop will give you the gen.

Two pot paint systems are wonderfully durable but also wonderfully expensive in my opinion, just check out the price of the thinners for them!

Thanks pdc1 for the info about the International marine paint process.Have located a Hammer Hardware who stock all the International marine paints including the latest you mentioned which is called Toplac.I am certainly interested in using Toplac orPerfection which you also mentioned. My project is to repaint our 1985 Honda City which has been such a great car.I explained all this to the Hammer Hardware paint expert and he advised I should also consider using Wattyl Killrust Superior Protection Epoxy Enamel as he said this would, in his view, provide a tougher paint finish with greater resistance to chipping and is also less costly than International.Has anyone had any experience of usingWattyl Killrust Superior Protection Epoxy Enamel!.
