Dodgy listing!

Same car listed on 343866071.

Its being listed by the same company that is represented through out NZ. Seems pretty normal.

jono2912, Jan 24, 11:16am
Yes, however it is listed with a private membership also.

jono2912, Jan 24, 11:21am
Not dodgy, to be honest, it doesn't bother me, as they were all classifieds (if memory serves me correctly), if they were auctions it would be a different story.

Hi, as I work for the business in question I can tell you it's not 'dodgy'. We often 'market on behalf' vehicles which are privately owned, and by doing so we are able to open up the market to buyers who have trade ins or who can only pay by finance - two important aspects which most private vendors are not able to accommodate. Like all dealers, we do have our margins, which is why you see a difference in price.

In this instance it appears that the private vendor is continueing to list their vehicle privately along with us listing the vehicle nationwide for them (for which we do at no charge) - this doesn't usually happen as we normally ask for the private vendor to remove their listings to avoid confusion. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will try and sort it out.

Hey thats cool, nice to know its all legit.

This type of multi-ad spamming should be banned. It's no better than keyword spamming.

If the vehicle is in Christchurch, advertise it in Christchurch, not Otago, or Manukau!

When I see businesses doing that, I automatically put them in the dodgy car dealer bin, certainly they wouldn't see my money.

cowboy110, Jan 24, 3:07pm
Trademe must LOVE these guys!eg.Same car listed in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin at $39 a pop. They won't be looking at banning this anytime soon.

phillip.weston, Jan 24, 3:31pm
How is it 'dodgy' that a dealer is trying to gain maximum exposure! As we have offices in every region that we are advertising the same car in, you're basically dealing with a local business where we get the car transported to where it is needed.

We sell plenty of vehicles to other regions from where the car is located, all to happy customers who wouldn't have otherwise seen the car listed as they didn't search outside of their region.

phillip.weston, Jan 24, 3:34pm
Not quite $39. Dealers who advertise using Autobase get charged at a different rate per block of cars listed. But you're quite right, the advertising costs are phenominal (over $10k per month), however it very much pays off as we're not spending over that figure per region for show rooms - Trademe and Autobase are essentially our online show rooms.

346819400 think i will buy this one haha

net_oz, Jan 24, 5:43pm
Why!
Cos it's 3k cheaper!

bitsy_boffin, Jan 24, 5:44pm
In the same way that using inappropriate or excessive keywords is, people do that for exactly the same reason "maximum exposure".

Who cares that the keyword has nothing to do with the listing, it's all getting exposure right.

Who cares that the vehicle isn't remotely in the region it is advertised in, it's all getting exposure right.

All you succeed in doing is polluting the trademe database and make it harder for people to find what they want.

phillip.weston, Jan 24, 5:46pm
the difference between keyword spamming is that the keywords have nothing to do with the original listing. If the idea was so 'dodgy' then why does it work incredibly well! Oh well, no loss - plenty of other satisfied customers.

I guess the term NZ New tends to be synonymous with quality vehicles so we run with that. For the kind of vehicles we deal with (ie late model 2002ish onwards) NZ-new vehicles make up a large number of sales - ie all Fords/Holdens, most Toyotas, many Mitsubishis, even NZ-new Euros.

Having said that we do indeed deal with Jap import vehicles, but not to the same extent as NZ-new vehicles.
