Good, we shouldn't be importing too old of rubbish anyway. New cars have to come up to standards, imports should not be far behind in doing the same.

agreed, we shouldn't be importing more than 7yo vehicles anyway. Its a pity that this sort of legislation just drives up the price of newer cars and keeps the ones already here on the road for longer, which kind of defeats the purpose of it really. But of course it doesn't affect politicians so it doesn't matter.

-_-, this emission's stuff is stupid in such a small country that can't afford to be over picky. If they are so worried oil is not economically sustainable anyway once newer technologies push through and become cheaper.
Now excuse me while I go light another cuban cigar and prepare my V8 racecar for the weekend and fill it with some leaded AV gas.

why arent they pushing some sort of incentives to get what smouldering dung heaps there are on our roads off them !
surely they are FAR less compliant than 99% of what they will ban.

SOME of the new stuff is awesome, direct injection with ultra lean burn technology. But bland and econobox directed. And before people go on about "old cars put out so much CO2 blah blah so we should do out bit and get new cars" I'll point out the plastics and all the crap on cars that are no good to go anywhere (say here) gets dumped, some recycled but a lot of foams and stuff are dumped, at least being here they get some use THEN dumped. More expensive vehicles means people keep their old cars on the road longer and fix them cause it's cheaper to fix than buy another possibly better (or worse, *shrug*) jappa. You can't force economics (and environmentalism) on people
If you are inclined to buy a new car and read up on the best one then get that, for everyone else it's just a pain in the ass and they can still gut the cats out when they get blocked by using shit fuel causing misfires and overfueling, my dailies actually MELTED off it got so hot from the owner using 91 and it all clogging up. But at least someone in Wellington got the warm fuzzies as they passed this bill.

^^yes that too, all the new technology with respect to emissions can't possibly work properly if they are fed rubbish fuel. This is something that both Govt and the oil co's need to be questioned about.A lot of the problems with direct injection motors, be they petrol or diesel are directly related to substandard fuel.

Better buy that r32/33/34 GTR skyline soon then (my dream car). I don't want an overpriced 2005 up nana car! Most people will just run their old car into the ground.

Poster 1, I presume you are an IMVIA member and have tried to do something about it! I am fairly confident steven Joyce doesn't read this forum

Silly question, will classics have to fall under this new code! Is it only cars produced after 2003!

Another quick question, if a car has previously been reg'd in NZ, but, the reg is dead, does it have to pass emissions laws! I have a mate restoring a TransAm and I hope this won't be an issue.

It's all bullshit, making millions of cars to replace old ones is more harmful to the environment than downgrading to something half electric to 'save the planet'. what does it cost to have all those factories burning various crap and stuffing it into our atmosphere! Don't believe a word of it, just make your current ride as efficient as you can.

Trouble with trying to keep old "classics" is parts , cardealers biff outold stock & none being manufactured as I found with my old BMW635Emission legislation will eventually put all old cars off the road , Govt will give you credits to buy a new econo box
