Mmm. Okay, I don't actually use them regularly. I don't even have them in my terminals box. So it's good to here the feedback.

What would you use BFM!

Ed: Although I do like them, usually solder in alarms for obvious reason.

I think this may be the key to the problem (no pun intended). Are these two motors (actuators) locking when they should be unlocking! Are the rods properly adjusted! If the stoke of the actuators is very short then they may be damaged and need repalacing. It's easy to damage actuators if they are wired back to front and suffer excessive load.

Ah, yes, well actually I narrowed the whole problem down to one terminal I hadn't insulated (and therefore it had earthed itself). Rookie mistake.

Yeah, sounded like a wiring problem. Glad you got it sorted.

well the car wont have the suitable wiring for a a modern stereo and the owner does not have many options because you will need to add wiring in i.e speakers will be common. no earth and no batt supply so best bet would be to change to a modern suitable plug or a old crap lucas style bullet connector plug cause it would look old and original .sometimes you need to tell customers everything they want is not always possible. If it is possible the price soon changes their mind

Amen to that last part.

Anyway, thanks for your help, looks like a have a bit more research to do, then a lengthy discussion with the customer.
