I went from learner to full license in 13 months. I had lessons with driving school and did an advanced test to prepare me for the full license test. Since then I had done advanced training at Pukekohe raceway.

Current thinking is that young drivers should be made to be on probationary periods for long periods because they cant be trusted, but I think that young people should be able to get their license in a short time if they attend the appropriate courses and display the necessary talent and skills. One year is plenty of time for a young person who has spent the previous 10yrs in fulltime education.

It would help if the license testers standardized there damn testing I keep of hearing of different testers opinions of what is and isn't a fail and how they test them, I would already have my license if it wasn't for the pricks changing their minds, first its 10 seconds between mirror checks. then 20 seconds. and last i heard it was apparently 3 seconds, stupid little things like that need to be made absolutely CLEAR to them

So yeah. I failed my Full at Takanini twice, once for not apparently stopping at a stop street ( which i did ) and the second because i apparently failed to check my mirrors while driving down an empty straight road, ( also how does he really know when im checking my mirrors! a quick flick of the eye to prevent a distraction from my driving in general ( and i dont wunna run a kid over) is pretty much impossible to see if you are looking at the test sheet all the time

How do you know the street was empty if you didn't look in your mirror ! ;)

Well its like every test you do in life, its a test of your ability to do the prescribed task - driving ability has very little to do with it. There is no sense in whinging about them not seeing you check your mirrors - turn your head and make him see you. And when you come to a stop at a stop sign - count loudly to 3, just so the cock knows you have stopped.
