Pre-purchase inspections

Whats the general procedure here (from a seller's perspective)!
Is it normal for the buyer to take the vehicle to a mechanic of their choice! If this is the case, should I ask for a bond/part-payment on the vehicle beforehand! How long should I allow the prospective buyer for a pre-purchase inspection! Who holds liability for any traffic fines the buyer could potentially incur whilst they have posession of the vehicle!

Some companies to mobile inspection that will come to your place, so the buyer could get that done or just go with the buyer when they take it to their mechanic.

When I sold my car I got buyer to book in and pay in advance at a place of their choice. Then I dropped car in at arranged time and picked up later that day.

accroul-- I get around 10 pp inspections done a month and one golden rule isthat you NEVER let the car out of your hands.
If they want a PPI then it gets taken by me to the garage or the inspector comes here. Unfortunately some very dodgy people have made it impossible to trust that your car will come back as it was or at all

Thanks for that. Gut instinct was telling me not to hand over any keys but having not sold a vehicle before, I wasn't sure of what to do.

accroul. In my opinion you just cantrate gut feeling too highly.
SO FARIve been pretty good.
A recent trick by a gang of well dressed young men was to ask for test drives in sports cars. They offered licences and even the keys to the cars they were driving which were fairly expensive looking. Those cars still haven't been recovered and the keys -go figure did not fit the cars they "left" -those also dissapeared 10 minutes after the "test drive"
