Think carefully about whether a GPS is actually going to be more useful than updating your phone to a smart one with GPS.

Having both, I wouldn't buy the GPS again. The phone is a much more useful device and its one less thing to cart around and charge.

Yeah, and what Jazz said.

Garmin if you want free maps, but personal preference really no right answer.

And you can get the Tom Tom app on the iPhone as well as a special in car holder too.

Do those iphone ones work as well as the dedicated gps systems! I don't own either an iphone or gps.

I bought a cheap dual zone dvd player for my dash and it came with iGO which I upgraded for free and now have maps of everywhere. Can't go from car to car but it has tonnes of features so I'll never get out of the car anyway.

The coolest thing ever is the full spread "analog" speedo dial it displays with the current speedlimit in the area as a full screen spread.

I can't comment on iPhone but Google Nav is excellent on Android,Trouble is you need a data connection for it to work which is relatively expensive here, and obviously it won't work without cell coverage.

There are offline solutions available too, but they usually cost a fair chunk of money.
