Hmmm.I could be wrong. I assumed it was the same engine used in the Yaris etc.

I think its a rebadged Daihatsu Storia/Sirion with a 1.0 EJ-VE engine hope someone else can shed some light on this! ta

Yeah, if that's the case, then you are correct. It has a belt driven 3 cylinder engine. Sorry about that;)

sweet all good, guess thats a bargaining point in the car as its done over 100k. Anyone know what to look out for when taking a look! upgrading (or is that downgrading) from a mid 90s corona

Pretty easy belt to do, less than 2 hours labour by the looks of it. Not very familiar with that engine sorry. I'm more familiar with Daihatsus with Toyota engines;)

Service history would be first on my questions list. Can't beat a good look over by a trusted mechanic.

Get it looked by a proper mechanic not the aa or vtnz. AA are good at telling you marks in the paint but not real issues. Or even take it to a toyota dealership and pay them labour to give it a going over.

Well that settles that then.

I carjammed the sucker and it tells me its an EJ engine, which would be the EJ-VE. a 3 cylinder belt drive. They also came with a 1.3L 4 cylinder K3-VE which is chain driven:)
so a better choice would be the 1.0 vitz instead! i know you all say go for the 1.3 but they are quite hard to find

Buy a Daihatsu Sirion with the 1.3L.Toyota engine, chain driven, VVTi etc.budget around $10g
