Gotta love people

who get great offers prior to auction closing/classified closing and don't take them and the auction closes $1K less than the offer they received hahahaa

According to TM I am not allowed to point you in the direction as it breaches terms for singling someone out lol - it is just a phenomena i have noticed a LOT recently - and i could show this for 5-9 auctions where over $1K has been lost by the auction runner lol

Comments in response are

"I think it is worth more . i'll just let auction run thanks"-WRONGO!

"Auction has started . I'll let it run"-No bids placed and someone offered cash on the spot for the car - it never sold and reserve was less than offer made

hahahaaa

You pay your money and you take a chance .

male_timaru, Dec 11, 10:37am
I agree but you gotta be gutted when you get offered $2500 that day and say no and get $1100 hahahaaa

kazbanz, Dec 11, 10:39am
MT -when the people auctioning the cars are dealers then the cost of accepting the cash offer can be a LOT more than some possible profit.

male_timaru, Dec 11, 12:49pm
true but when obviously private . lol

There is one guy selling a Prelude - OBVIOUSLY a dealer (unlicensed of course) who has sold a car a month since may this year but still denies it lololol!

Ya know this is something that genuinely has me scratching my head.
The gubbiment is trying to get the country out of debt and yet is missing out on millions of dollars in unpaid taxes from guys like that one.
Actually more the "private" sellers who import cars 4 or 5 at a time.
I'da thought it would be an easy cash cow for the government .

male_timaru, Dec 11, 1:41pm
lol - at least when i was buying and selling cars in Timaru I was doing it cos i bought them did them up and then drove them and sold them again - i did it for the fun of buying working on them and then getting the next project - wasn't about making money!

trogedon, Dec 11, 2:23pm
That's what I used to say too - when I didn't make $ on one!

male_timaru, Dec 11, 2:27pm
lol . on paper .

a.woodrow, Dec 11, 2:53pm
Like I said in the other thread - a lot of those offers made aren't genuine. I've struck this before, get a higher offer on a car, tell them you'll take it and then never hear back

vtecnet, Dec 11, 5:49pm
What I hate, is trying to buy a car at turners cheap and getting outbid buy dealers who then sell the car for 2x the price on here claiming its the best car in the world.

richynuts, Dec 11, 5:58pm
Of course itwasn't.just like everyone in jail is innocent.

richynuts, Dec 11, 5:59pm
Exactly!

countrypete, Dec 11, 6:14pm
The high "cash" offer is commonly a "mate" talking up the value of the car on behalf of the seller (God I'm a cynic).

franc123, Dec 11, 6:25pm
Who cares! The auction in question was being bid on by two newbie zero feedbackers, a mysteriously high buynow offer came in within two hours of auction close that was more than three times the current bid price at that time and it was clearly being sold by an unlicenced dealer/non RMVT whatever you like to call them these days. Whats a bet that very shortly anyone who was watching that auction gets an FPO for what he REALLY wants.Just another timewaster being a bit delusional about what their old pile of unremarkable Japscrap is worth.

mugenb20b, Dec 11, 6:33pm
The offer was probably made by some tyre kicker which may not have been genuine anyway.

kazbanz, Dec 11, 6:41pm
so why diddn't you bid higher than the dealer!

kazbanz, Dec 11, 6:43pm
Um franc- so you are actually MT then!

sr2, Dec 12, 1:13am
LOL, at the least you??

I prefer the term 'experienced optimist'.
